Bill Sims
Can anyone recommend where to find the 2" turned posts for the reinforcing book shelves on the weekender. I have tried West Marine, Home Depot, and a hobby store called Michael's with no success. Thanks.
Guest
I am not sure of the posts you speak about concerning the overall lenthg of them but try a Lowes Lumber company if one is in your area, that has a bunch of fancy turned posts that fits in kitchen pass throughs, that may work. Frank Hagan
I think they are called "pinrails", and they are usually found along with the embossed molding in the molding section of the hardware store. I went a different route because I didn't want to spend $4 a foot on the pinrail. I just used a straight bar across the front to accomplish the same thing:
Guest
Thanks Frank. i took it that the shelves were needed some decorative sitfners and the thread looked lonely, sliding into the depths.

Barry Pyeatt
Made up it is called Gallery Rail. It is used commonly in kitchen trim. Lowes carries it in unfinished maple and red oak in their trim moulding areas of the lumber sales area as well as special order in finished lengths thru their kitchen sales dept. Purchasing it prefinished thru a kitchen department will be expensive though. It is also available on the web thru several moulding suppliers in various woods and lengths. Use the Search function for "Gallery Rail spindles". www.WoodworkerSupply.com carries the turned spindles in birch, oak and walnut in bags of 10 each as well as the completed rail.
