Bill Sims
I have recently begun caulking the inside of my Weekender with the 3M 5200 sealant. The stuff seems incredible - like flubber. I have one question/problem...I have been finishing the boat as I go along and now I have a nicely finished boat (everything below BBL as the video says), except I am not the most beautiful artist with a caulk gun. Is there a way to smooth down the caulk bead once it is cured? Sandpaper? Something else? Thanks for the advice, Bill
Craig
Oyster sands the stuff he uses. 5200 will sand also but I never cared what it looked like so I am not sure if it will sand to a cove shape. It will sand off the flats quite well Bill.
Frank Hagan
Well, the 5200 takes paint well ... My "attention to detail" in this area was lacking, and I worried about it a bit, but really, once its painted, its hardly noticible. I haven't had anyone comment on it, anyway. Once its fully cured, you might try shaping it with a small surform shaper ... they have one that is almost square, about 1 1/2" in size. Or, do what I did and paint it.
