Cactus Willie
I built a skipjack last year and did just fine with a lateen sloop combination. It was a very nicely balanced rig and easy to use. You can go to: homepage.mac.com/charlescasterline and see it sailing. I put a part of a video taken last summer and put it on the site. I am a musician, so you will see that there too. But just go down to the boat stuff and see what you think. P Doug (WA)
Very nice looking boat. Built in 4 weeks! That's really fast.
Dave R1
Hey Cactus Willie, you've come a long way from that hemp rope and the pretzel-shaped mast. Good work. I still remember your fisrt launch. Maybe you can make it up for the messabout in the spring.
Cactus Willie
I did not have a lot of time to spend getting the boat ready for that first messabout thing. I just wanted to get it out on the water with the rest of the folks. Four weeks isn't much and that was sort of getting on its way and nothing fancy. She floats great, sails nice and I have been able to put a little more time in getting her more sailable. I plan to build a vacationer starting this spring and it will not be an in and out the door project. I will sail my skipjack til she is done. Plan to use fiberglass and the whole nutroll and make her a real thing of pride. I have sailed lots of boats and owned a few. But building them is somewhat new. Besides I think those stevensons boats are some of the prettiest out there. I will be in Texas until May...so if you are going to have another messabout before then, I cannot be there.
