Hey everyone,

Requesting more advice for a first time builder.

I'm continuing a nesting SD10 build that I started late last year and I’d like to gather some opinions, Pros/Cons on if it's better to glass the hull before cutting the boat in half or the other way around. At this point I’m ready for either of those next steps and wanted to make the best use of my time.

thanks in advance!

I didn't glass any of my boats, I like light weight.  But if I were to glass a nesting boat I would cut it in half first. This way you can wrap the bottom onto the nesting bulkheads as well as the transom and sides.

I ended up glassing before cutting in half since it made the actual glassing easier, since I could just do each side in one go. But if your temperatures are such, or you resin is a fast curing resin, it could be nice to cut it in half first so you have more manageable surfaces to glass in one go.

Years ago I built a nesting 2 Paws.  We lived in “the city “ then and had a very nice older lady that lived across the street.  She took great interest in the little boat build and would toddle over daily to supervise the project. When I got to the part where I was to saw the boat in half, she got really upset and actually called my wife at work to tell her I was sawing “the little bateau “ up.  Nice to have neighbors that care.

I didn't glass the Suzy J, but I did wrap the joints and faired them after. As for cutting,  I used a hand saw with some tape above the cutting teeth, just to keep the saw fram scratching the bulkhead. That was probably on B & B' s advice, but that was a long time ago.
