S10n749 Posted July 9, 2023 Report Posted July 9, 2023 Picked up what appears to be a pretty good condition S10n yesterday. The sail number is 749. There are a few dings in the paint to repair but overall it seems quite solid. The previous owner never sailed it. Step 1 will be to source some hardware for joining the 2 halves. What's the best option? Then on to sorting out the rigging. The boom is from a laser. Quote
Hirilonde Posted July 9, 2023 Report Posted July 9, 2023 I made my nesting hardware, but that was before Alan came out with his CNC made HMWP hardware. B&B is the only source I know of. I take it the previous owner used bolts to join the halves? Have fun finishing things up. Quote
Aphers Posted July 9, 2023 Report Posted July 9, 2023 Standard is M6 bolts, optionally with wing nuts. I upped mine to M8 (paranoia!) and use eye nuts/bolts, which gives me extra places to tie things on. Are the foils there? Quote
S10n749 Posted July 10, 2023 Author Report Posted July 10, 2023 I found where someone posted the page from the plans showing the bolt arrangement and that aligns with what I'm seeing. The B&B option and the other stainless bracket option look like they'd require some major surgery so I'll stick with just bolts for now. I like the eye nut/bolt idea, I'll have to order some. Rudder & Dagger Board are there and in good shape although the dagger board it a very snug fit in the trunk. Interestingly, the boat also came with 4 inflatable bladders that slot into channels just under the gunwales. Perhaps for extra flotation. Seems like they'd add drag through the water as well but maybe they sit high enough to stay dry. Will have to experiment. 1 Quote
Aphers Posted July 10, 2023 Report Posted July 10, 2023 Maybe those inflatables are for fendering? Could be a great idea if you need that. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted July 12, 2023 Report Posted July 12, 2023 I agree with Aphers. Some harbor require fendering on all hard-sided dinghys, or so I’m told. I have B&B’s clips along the bottom of my nesting pram. You’re right. A retrofit would require major surgery. Five 1/4” stainless steel bolts with wing nuts and rubber washers (on the bottom three) are best for you. 1 Quote
