Curt Varner Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 Any experience using a hammock tent slung between the two masts - can the masts and step handle the load of one person (200 lbs)? Quote
Hirilonde Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 I have never tried, but consider the physics. Due to the angle of the lines the strain on each rope is greater than 200#. Interesting idea, but I will let someone else try first. Quote
Pete McCrary Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 With the hammock load, mast material & diameter, and partner material and dimensions known -- the remaining and most important variable will be the height above the mast partners to which the hammock lines are attached. A fairly standard exam question for 2nd year civil and mechanical engineering students. Answer (formula) probably easily found in most engineering handbooks. Quote
Don Silsbe Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 I thought about it, but the distance is not great enough on my BRS15. Quote
Jknight611 Posted April 13, 2021 Report Posted April 13, 2021 Hi all, might want to consult the web site “the ultimate hang”. As some may know, I motorcycle camp quite a bit with a homemade hammock. There is a calculator on that site that give the angle and the weight exerted on the tree (or mast). I think I would consult our favorite marine designer before I subjected my masts to a point load. It is more of a load than I thought! 1 Quote
