Carl
I downloaded the FreeB plans and didn't find numbers for "brackets" that hold the keel and frames to their rocker. I did see that the frame at 116" has 5/16" Z in the first line that none of the other frames do. Is that the rocker? Thanks!
JohnAsa
Carl, I just finished the FreeB-12 and made the assumption that the bottom was flat, except for 116" and kept them at the same height. not sure if that was correct. Based on my experience, I suggest adding a bracket for the bow and stern (1/2" thick) to maintain alignment. Because they don't have the same structures as those in the book for squaring the bow and stern, I also recommend taking extra effort to secure the gunwale and stringers, as I found it very easy for the bow and stern to get twisted, especially during covering. My FreeB has a tendency to pull a little to the port. If I were to build this one again, I might use dowels to ensure that the stringers and gunwales don't slip once I have them aligned and tied in correctly. I'm sure others have good recommendations. Carl
Thanks John. The dowels seem like a good idea.
JohnAsa
Glad to help. PS - my wife loves the FreeB-12 - nice and stable, very light, paddles easy.
