Spindrift 12 #1275 - Daggerboard cleats

I have this beautiful CNC cut daggerboard with a "built in" grip handle.

My question is: where should I put the cleat?

It seams natural to put the cleat below the grab hole, but by the plans, 40" to the top of the cleat puts it at the grab hole.

Recommendations?

What a pretty piece!  I’m guessing that the hook at the top left precludes the need for the cleat.  But this is just a guess.

Interesting thought. If it is strong enough alone.

That given, I certainly don't need 5/8" cleats per the plan.  The 5/8" thickness is probably for a finger purchase 'cut out' on the underside.

Yes this was the idea. new design for the CNC cut daggers. The little cleats are prone to breaking off if not don't right and this prevents that and you can't jam your fingers. That was the idea anyway.

Very cool, & very beautiful.  Thinking about it... the catch on the back only has to  handle the vertical weight of the daggerboard. The more aggressive loads will be fore & aft on the trunk kingposts.  Especially if I run shallow & forget to lift it. ?
