calligraf
Hi, I'm building a solo Crawfish and am now ready to attach the gunwales. The instruction book reads, "Now that you have attached the gunwales, you will need to flatten the top edge." Does this simply mean that you want a straight, consistent surface along the length of the gunwales where the spacing blocks will be placed? Or do the gunwales need to be planed down so that the top surfaces (inner and outer gunwales) are parallel to the floor? I'm a bit confused as the top edges are already flat since I ran them through my table saw.
Kudzu
Once you attach the gunwales and the blocks it will be more obvious. But It is virtually impossible to glue all those in place and perfectly even, so the idea is get that top of the gunwale smooth/flat for cosmetic reasons. If you are installing breasthooks on top of the gunwales then you going to need the ends shaped so the breasthook rests flat on the gunwales.
