Bill Paxton
Is it possible to rig a bimini top on a CS 17? My first mate, delicate flower that she is, loves to sail but needs to be in the shade most of the time.
Gordy Hill
Sure! They have them on Sea Pearls, and they work just fine. There's no reason you couldn't put one on a Core Sound. If my mizzen were about 8 inches longer I'd consider it on my boat.
Brent
Here is a Sea Pearl WWW, which has some pictures to illustrate, per Gordy's note. http://www.marine-concepts.com/sp21.html
Bill Heil
I suppose you would want it right under the mizzen sail, where you are sitting most of the time when sailing. Shoudn't be too hard to do, maybe y ou can even find a ready made one that would fit, in some of the catalogs. You might have to raise the mizzen sail up to get proper headroom under the sail. I've thought about that, just make the top section of the mast taller, it is usually made out of wood anyway. Bill
Guest Anonymous
I would like to add a bimini top to my CS-17 as well. What does our designer think about raising the mizzen to clear a bimini? Roger
Roger Peterson
Whoops!!! I forgot to log in... Is there a suggested or prefered height above the seat tops or deck for the bimini? Roger
Bill Heil
I guess it depends on how tall you are sitting down!! you wouldn't want to make it any taller than necessary. Also, it may interfere when you sit on the deck when sailing in stronger breezes. I think you just have to experiment and work out what is best for you.
