  1. oh now that was cruel Frank!! true but cruel  Actually I dithered over the weekender and the Valgerda or a houseboat to moor on the creek (just in case) for about a week then took meself to task and started the keels of the two... and as they say the rest is history!! Im glaring rather meanly at the hydrofoil plans I downloaded from Stevensons site... I mean it just looks ooooohhh soooooooooo flamin easy!!! Jake mate its true its taken me a long time to settle it... nothin like the imput of the almighty to make a fella pull his finger out eh!! Tell you what though its a good thing!! This boatbuildin caper that is... Missus is callin me the part time hubby nowadays as Im always either at work or out the back in the humpyhoochy buildin me boats and muckin with the tools!! Adla I try to get the hoonberrys involved and they do show interest sporodically... Hoshy (ala little Joshua) is about the most consistant but at 10 hes a tad young yet to be rippin planks usin the jointer or bandysaw so he gets rather bored and wanders off... I had him out there yesty sanding the spokes on the sanding machine which is very stable and his height... chingaleese model and so the stand is a tad on the short side  but perfect for his little self... enjoyed himself immensely he did Mind you after I went nuts and built canoeythingy when no one at all would give me a hand they werent out of it for more than a few seconds!! "oooh dadda your buildin another boat? goodoh let me know when your done" and off they go!! Dont worry about the old phart luggin 15ft lengths of Sepaiture keel timbers ooooh no dont worry about the old phart luggin around sheets of ply oooooooooh no but come the launch day they'll be there with knobs on!!! flamin hoons!! Mind you thats the whole purpose of the other boat... its theirs!! this one is mine ALL MINE!!! the valgerdas theirs the canoes are theirs but the weekender IS MINE!!! avarst yer scurvy dawgs if yer think yer gettin yer clutchin hands on me pirate ship!! :x I gotta get me a set of plans for a spud gun or a wee canon that fires spuds that'll teach em
  2. Damn! You got them trained well! Now howd you do that?? I mean anything even remotely resembling outdoors work ala sortin for a shed and this mob run like buggary!! Yep the keels set and ready to accept the hull bum... no troubles there so far... will wait till Im 3D before I post pics of progress then we will KNOW we have a boat!!! But somehow I was begining to think I was using the wrong timber for the keel I mean one lenght of this Sepiature is friggin heavy let alone 3 of them!! ah well she should lay to her water lines real well  Cheers!
  3. HAHAHA!!! Gawd that gave me some imagination food 8) Yep I can just see me sailin her over!! Aarrgghh me arteys stan to for the rape an palliage of the Americas by the pirates from downunder! mmm wonder what Id have to do to her to make her offshore safe?? aargh buggar it!! Me bein a pirate with vikin tendancies its doable even in this wee tub Im buildin... Gawd strewth Someone hold me back!!!!
  4. HA!!!!!!!!! And so as the gods of boatbuilding muckups say all should be well with just a little bit of change of tack so it came to be I went out and did just that bunged a square peice in and cut them again this time with the spoke straight in from me... and whalla! All is well 8) Okay so then I had to make a few adjustment cuts to the spacers but no worries no problemo and alls good... gotta be happy eh? Cheers! 8) Although as can be seen Ive sorta made the circle middle bit a tad thick... ah well no problemo once I arc the bandsaw up and set her up properlike so shes all hot an good they will be sliced in half then she'll be the ducks knuts! Havent gotten to the deadeyes yet but now Ive sorted this out with your quick fingered assistance I shall now go for broke!! Oh and I gotta find a nice peice of Sheoak that lends itself to make the inner and outer rings... mmmm may have to do this in a couple of goes I reckon to get the rings large enough... mmm but may have to forgo the sheoak for some prettier wood of some sort cause I dont think the lace will show with the boards cut the way they have been... else I may just do it with some 1/2in ply and stick some Ebony or Maple veneer on them?... will have to cogitate Cheers!!
  5. WOW! quick one mate!! Cheers So Ive gone about it all assup eh? buggar... okay so now lets see if Ive got what your saying right have the saw set at 30* as it is... place a square peice of timber against the fence then... put the spoke against the timber peice?... mmm okay will wait a few and see if Im on the right track or not Thanks!! 8)
  6. So Im out in the humpyhoochy and decide to get the wheel done... so out with some light colored Jarrah and I mark and cut the spokes no probs onto the lathe and turn the handle and the wee bit in the middle lookin good says I for only the second time ever using a lathe... so thats great So I then figure lets get the wee spacers done... so out with some Meranti and cut out the wee pic on the page since it says "full size" so I mark the thing and cut it no worries to the lines easy as So now for the 30* angles at the base... so Ive gotten smart as Ive gotten older and I now make a couple of extras... so I take these over to the sliding compound saw get it set at 30* and cut these two at that... eh? WHATTHA??? No way!! So I raced in and checked the book... 30*... damn cant see it working myself angles just seem totally wrong... anyway grasping my heart in my hands I head back down the back to the humpyhoochy and take a deep breath... cut them all at 30*... So I put them onto a flat board of ply and... nothing fits!! The angles are as I expected wrong... the bases of the spokes dont meet as I would expect them to... the spacers dont meet the spokes... Whattha??!! So Mike? Frank? Adla? Mike? Chad? HELL KONRAD??? ANYONE??? What went wrong? I followed the plans as for the size of the spokes and spacers I followed the plans as per the angles on the base of the spokes so what the blazes went skrewiff? Okay give me a few and I'll rip back down there and take some pics... okay will give you an idea maybe I should try to put them together? okay give me a few and I will do that... it just doesnt work though Oh and hey I havent finished them yet so all marks and cuts etc will be sanded before it goes together!!... so anyway as you can see I cant get the ruddy thing to match up even when putting the cover peice of Sepiature over it!! 30* is that wrong?? seems it should be more acute than that... sigh oh well for now I will head up and do the dead eyes
  7. witch!! But seriously Adla how the blazes do you manage to find the time!!! I mean Ive got the keel done sure... and the keel for the Valgerda... and Ive got the boards for the bum sorta ready to be cut well mostly... but then the hoons get in the way the family things keep interuptin the work thing seriously impeads progress the travel to and from daughters place 160klicks away every weekend sorta pulls it up a tad then theres the eating sleeping being with missus stuff... and this weekend I have to rip up to Rockingham 100 clicks up the road to pick up a couple of lengths of Oregon for spars and such... I mean it all slows one down!!... then theres the flamin mongrel phone that blaaaaaaaats at me every few hours or so... oh and then one gets to a point were sleep deprivation hits and you get lazy and go for a nap... so how the heck do you find the time... oh right thats me eh! ahem your still a little witch woman! Two weeks building time Oyster??? oh right not the weekender eh whew 8) but boy am I getting behind schedule here  Cheers!!!
  8. Sooo Jake wheres the pics mate?? 8) I must get back onto Mike havent heard from him in ages... my mind seems to be telling me hes moved locations but hell what would I know Im in over my gronicles just rememberin me name!!
  9. Cheers people! 8) I think with your help Im up to speed now so will get stuck in again no worries
  10. mmm what am I not seeing here? Ive now got to the point where I have three beautiful lengths of 14ft Sepature keel timbers waiting to go together but Im stumped with how the triangle bits go together on its bum.. the plans show only the measurements for the one keel timber the outside ones what of the centre one? it is longer than the outside ones right? So why am I not seeing that? Ive gone over Phils Aloha site and I know theyre different lengths since you can make out where the outside ones overlap the centre keel timber yet the plans are only showing me one size for the keel Its been driving me nuts as Im itching to get this build on the road someone please point out what Im missing here!! Ive got the rudder and stems done as is the lofting of the hull bum Im just stuck at this point Note... had to hide the keel timbers away and tell a white lie that I was making her highness something special (actually the Stevensons Sewing Centre and a bookcase) so she wouldnt see such a fine timber going onto a boats bum and I just know Im gonna have trouble with her when it comes to all the Jarrah and Sheoak Ive put to one side for this wee boatbuild  Little does she know Ive also bought a nautical weather set for it as well ah well she do loves me wee foibles she do Please point out where Im not seeing this keel thing!! Cheers and thanks 8)
  11. Cheers Mike! Ive spent the last few days pouring over them quite happily digesting every word... Ive actually started geting the Sepiature (sp?) timber ready for the keel and have created a couple of stands since Ive got wicked cruel knees just now that persist in clicking out every time I bend down... so Im in the processes of building a stand that is able to be raised and lowered so I dont have to do too much crouchin and bendin... will see eh? No worries Greg thats the humpy hoochy down the back it tends to leak a little so really should just be ideal for the timber storage area... theres also a 40ft sea tainer that once her highness moves her gunk out to wherever sheilas stuff such things will become my finishing room and within 4 - 5 weeks there should be a nice wee 6mtr x 9mtr shed nearer the house with power and everything!! Whaaahoo!! then I can actually use the ruddy tools without blowin the lights up at the house!! flamin things! But hey the main thing is Ive got it all sorted and will start in earnest soon enough I also very much appreciate how absolutely flamin lucky I am... remember here I was the poor dopey buggar that ended up cutting the canoe moulds out in the living room to the absolute disgust from her highness!! cause I didnt have anywhere else to do it!! So I really appreciate the space areas Ive got now weve moved too flamin right I do! Im prepared to sacrifice my time between the Weekender and the Valgerda an old norse design by Atkins... and have been absolutely roundly chastised by the hoonberrys for not doing their as promised several years ago canoes so they must be first... but I see no reason why they cant be done at the same time? I mean the table saws going woods nearby know which wood is to be used for which boat no dramas cutting the strips for the canoes at the same time as the stringers for the weekender eh? Amongst those tools are several Ive never used and some Ive never even turned on before in my life so have a major learning curve heading my way... Ive always wanted to use a lathe but never had the opportunity so thats one of the first Ive also never used a drawknife so thats another Im looking forward to having a go at... Hey! Mike Ive been wandering around your site again and fell over the old plans for the hydrofoil... mate!! I reckon that would be just the ducks knuts for those mad moments I tend to have to just let loose on the water!! Is that a difficult build? No worries we will see... chaos is our existance!! normalacy would be oooh so boring!! HA!! Cheers all
  12. Okay... good news and not so good news I left with my 25 year old nephew this morning taking him in the hope he could get into places and talk with people who wouldnt talk to an old phart... and we got as far as Meredin when I got a call from the female cop handling the case They located Melissa this morning and "she is well and working"... so much for the good news Now for the not so good... she refused to talk with me or say if or when she would be in contact or come home... and theres sweet stuff all I can do about it!... The cop refused to give me any information as "Melissa is an adult and we have to respect her wishes if she doesnt want us to know or doesnt want to talk with us then all the information they can give us is that she is well working" So now Im home again and we have to simply twiddle our thumbs and wait for her to contact us But the good news is shes okay Thanks to all for your help good wishes thoughts prayers and love. 17. Thanks fellas!! Cheers  For those who havent met me loverly other arf... the "Possumpoop" is actually Jody but shes tiny {like 4ft nothin tiny} sorta like a wee possum and well shes a bit of a ditzy blonde although increadibly intellectual compared to yours truely which of its ownself tends to give me the shytes cause I just cant understand how one so flamin blonde can be so flamin right all the ruddy time!... so shes possumpoop!.. cause shes cute and gives me the shytes! Love her beyond comprehension!! Of course havin been the mother of our 8 hoonberrys makes her a pretty special sorta sheila too

Cant I?? mmm??? an I gots all this wood just beggin to be butchered into something that should float havent I?? an now with the plans in hand tools an timber to hand its time... isnt it?
  19. No worries Jake ol matey just havin a lend of yer is all As for the program something musta gone real screwy with the download from download.com as the thing wouldnt install and wound the comp down by loading up several times and loading up some temp exe thing made this brand spanking wizzbang speed of light comp go slow as heck  Will install paint shop pro or something similar but thanks for the link mate
  20. CRUEL!!! I mean thats flamin cruel fellas! I have always had every intention of building a boat.. aside from the legendary canoeythingy that is may she rest in fruit I just needed to get ready is all... takes time is all!!! I think it was bloody motivational having the flood I sorta realised that I was bein totally anul about getting everything in place every tool I would could or may want to use every peice and stick of wood it would take every plan set I could get my fingers on... the flood made me decide enough was enough intention is to get two sets of plans one "easy" short term other long term... but now I cant be bothered and will make the weekender and start enjoying gettin on the water if I build another yeeha if I dont who cares Im out there doin the oyster dance on the water in a boat I builded I am downloading that program Dave and if I can will upload a couple of shots of the new ubeaut humpy with tools an timber then maybe yous blokes will believe me!! mmmm seems not to want to install and setup? pay928.temp.exe loads up in the process area along with the setup program but nothing is happening? mmm will have another go at it tomorrow
  21. Pics will start at layin of the keel  Thats only cause I gotta get a picture program on this computer as the pics from the camera are comin in at over a meg!! gotta get paint shop pro or some such so I can shrink em!! But this will be done tootsweet!
  22. Good luck and take all care Charlie and anyone else in the way of that thing... and nearby!! They can only give an approximation of where they expect it to cross the coast just like cyclones and the bastards rarely stay true to what would be in the best interests of man.. so board up and buggar of and stay safe! Keeping our cyclone experienced hearts and minds in thoughts for you
  23. So Im back!!! Plans for weekender arrived safe and sound this fine morning and after much ado during the day Ive spent the evening in quiet purusal Confused? Blood oath!! but happy as a cocky on a fence Ive sorted the ubeaut new tools out in the far humpy have shyteloads of timber {Malaysian Meranti Kapur and Sepeiture along with Jarrah Karri Wandoo and some Tuart) along with more than enough ply to hand {I finally found a salvage yard that has 1/4in and 1/2in ply at a better than brilliant for here price! ) and will start work on the keel (Malaysian Sepeiture) within the coming week... gotta put the kitchen back together lay a Jarrah floor refurbish the dunny shower an laundry and make an ensuite in the shower room all pretty straight forward and easy stuff... should get to the keel around Saturday - Sunday next week if all goes acording to plan Will be interesting jointing and thicknessing that Septeiture stuff as Ive never heard of it before and have no idea what it will finish up like as for weight well its in 6.5mtr lengths and as such is ruddy heavy and so will tell you when I cut it to length! Cheers and thanks to Oyster Mike Mike Stevenson Frank Hagen and all for the encouragement and support  Builder #3115 has arrived!
