The pine i have used is about 50 or 60 years old. It was the roof deck on my next door neighbours boat shed. It was 2x6 tongue and grove which is machined down to 1 1/4 x 3 then biscuited and scarfed as needed. It is very hard and very strait so not really to stressed, that being said should i be as i have built plenty furniture out of reclaimed lumber and it has all been fine. I just did not want to spend a heap on some mahogany then machine it all down. The keel as finished is dead strait were it needs to be and lays flat on the mylars exactly where it should so dimensionally it is good. It is going to sit there for a few weeks while i transfer lines from the mylars( not my favorite task as it kills my back) Then on to cutting frames , stringers ETC before it get's set up. The last pic is a pic of the end grain of the wood machined down to 1/4" x 3"

Looks good, beautiful design.
We live right up the road from you. We sail our CS20.3 from Kessler and go to Cat Island a lot.
Lets hook up sometime soon.
Sounds good.

Marissa # 63 is finally getting a motor hung on the transom. Christmas and a dead pickup kinda got in the way. My folks also came out for a visit which was great. That being said have managed to machine up some old heart pine and start getting a keel sorted. Looking forward to all the madness and of course the comments

If anyone had trouble pronouncing the river in Biloxi that Riggs is on.......Tchoutacabouffa is "shoot-a-ca-buff. Spent many hours of my youth on that River, Back Bay and Mississippi Sound in anything that floated....what a great place to grow up messing about in boats. Real nice job on the Marissa Riggs, enjoy.
You probly no my Father in laws house then. He had a 54 ketch called the vagrant gypsy right there on the river south of I10 . Built his house there so as to be close to his boat which took him 3 years to build down in Honduras. This is were Marrisa #63 will be living when all finished

Don't tell her it's a new boat, just say you had to fix a couple of things on the current one and took it back apart. Paint them both the same color and scheme, she'll never know the difference. Otherwise you'll have to hear in the background, "how many boats does he need" like I do.
Your an evil genius i assume

Those monster energy drinks make me crazy Yes lotus i have thought about some trim tabs even though it will be heavier than drawn. I am on the Tchoutacabouffa river in Biloxi MS and there can be a lot of floating debris at times so i have glassed the entire bottom inside and out to much more of an extent than the drawings show. That being said i agree with you that it might very well need some tabs. My wife is totally happy with the fact that the boat is nearly finished as she is under the impression that i can now finish our house . She does not understand that Allen has shipped and i have picked up a nice shiny new set of OC20-B Drawings. Lumber for the keel is already hear and will be machined up soon, plywood is on order and will land after Thanksgiving. Maybe i will tell her then
I will try to post up some pics of the launch and such when it happens. I hope before Christmas. You all have a good one

Again thankyou for the praise. Yesterday i made all the hookups under the console. Main buss, steering throttle ETC. all seems to work fine. So now is just a little paint and finish then of to get a motor hung and be done Has been a lot of fun

Thought i would post a few pics. Most everything seems to be moving along as it needs to other than the loss of my brain cells due to my growing addition to paint fumes. On the good side the temp here in the south along with the humidity i am hoping will drop allowing me to open up the doors. If not my boat is going to be owned by a cabbage

That look's very sexy Lotus. You gonna make any of the opening open for ventilation?
-
Hey Guys . Yeah that Pettit primer worked nice but man it is some wicked smelly nasty gear. I ended up with a stand alone ac unit and a mini split on full tilt with a fan in the door while wearing a ventilator to apply it. Wife was complaining she could smell it in her studio which is a good 150' down the garden
It does seem to have done the trick though, gonna get on some sanding over the next few days then maybe some paint. I am looking to do a satin finish but have not found any satin paint that is compatable yet but have not looked to hard yet. Am also thinking along the two tone lines Lotus used on his OC20" out in malta i like that look. Other than that it is looking like i will be having a turn over party next week some time Yea

1 1/4" x 3 on the straits scarfed as per the drawings. The sections were the width is wider i only took the boards down to 5 1/2" x 1 1/2 and had to edge join using biscuits and Cascamite wood glue. These sections were clamped in many directions then put through a surface plane to get them down to 1 1/4. They are then ready for the bandsaw. I am going by what i learned about forty years ago in England from an older boat builder. He always told me that a stronger truer piece of wood can be achieved in this method. I hope it still applys Lastly there is Cascamite on every single surface requiring it, i use it over epoxy just for the mess angle. I hope it passes muster as i don't want to do it again LOL .
