  1. Many thanks for the kind words. You should just know, your judgement is now subject to question. That said, it ain't my board, but I don't think anyone gonna mind too much. That one dude who's team won rings last fall (you paint a new poster, Woodman?) puts all kinds of plywood up on here, and we love it, and him. This forum was my first reintroduction to the web, by the by, and it fooled me into thinking the web had changed. Ha! This is a very special place. Don't talk about it! Hehheh. Isn't that the first rule? Peace, Robert
  2. I think it will be nice. I may be bothered by the asymmetrical nature of the paddle, but it should be fine. I haven't used any but Greenland style paddles for a LOOONG time. In fact, all my single paddles are willow leaf or greenland style blades, too. I do mostly hand work, so the planing isn't bad to me. Shoot, when I get bored enough, I make planes... Peace, Robert
  3. Well, I wished you the best, then offered any advice and encouragement, so I can't imagine how I could make you feel more welcome. I also stated my only issue was changing someone's design without changing the designation. So, again. Good luck on your quest. I offer any advice and encouragement. My first advice is to take great care bevelling your stringers to meet your ply. I've built a couple ply on frame kayaks. It is nice, but I'd prefer 10,000 lashes to ANY sanding.
  4. If you are alone, and someone overhears, "What did you call me?", you are going to get looked at or talked to... My real trouble comes on days like today, when I have to work around other people. When that happens, I generally mutter to myself in Spanish. Being a triple threat, though, I curse myself in German, because hardly anybody around here understands any of that, but everyone knows the Spanish swears. In certain parts of my area I can get away with Portuguese, but in other parts I'm afraid I'll be adopted if I speak it. My grandpa was so into assimilation, though, and I learned it so late, my Portuguese just convinces anyone who hears it I DO have the mind of a child. Hahaha! I'm off to real work, y'all. I put what I hope is the last few dabs of fairing gloop on yesterday, so after it cures and sands, I'm gonna finally glass this bad boy. I've been busy on other stuff. Not the CS, she's waiting for something I need before I can start, aside from my undivided attention. I'm trying to wrap up all my loose ends, y'all, so this fall I can focus on old #55. I'll post some pics of the boat related stuffs. Peace, Robert
  5. Yikes! That means I'm about 1% sanding and 2% building.Haha. Honestly, I don't swear all that much, but I do talk to myself. I will tell myself exactly what I think of me in no uncertain terms. When you work alone, the worst part of the job is always the boss and the help. I'm surrounded by idiot.
  6. Went a little crazy...but she do work. Yes, now I have to round over all 300 odd feet of bookshelf. Dang!
  7. Holy cow! I may keep it, now. It works well. Wedge needs a little trimming to open the throat, but it is cool.
  8. Whoa! Smart choice to do the canoe first. Now you can paddle with the rest of the navy while you sweat and moan over your invention. Which project I think you should pursue. Meanwhile, that is a snazzy little canoe, eh?
  9. I'm more the 85% cursing school, I think.
  10. Good gracious, how many pictures can I take of me sanding and filling. Still at it. I think I'm happy enough to go ahead and glass. Once we get an overnight low in the 60s again, I'm going to go for it.
  11. Okay, Paul, I did get a little carried away with the wedge. I don't know. Supposed to be vaguely bird like. After the oil stops soaking in, this puppy is done. Notice the plane in the background has matted out? Ready for some hand grease!
  12. Sorry
  13. I got no dog in the fight other than being a designer, not of boats, that has had my name attached to things I didn't draw or do math on. Other than that, I got no say, but I will happily offer any advice and encouragement. Peace, Robert
  14. If you change it at all, even a free plan, do not call it a Kudzu boat, unless Jeff was in on the changes. That said, I wish you the best on your quest, though I could not imagine why you'd want to change that boat one bit. She's a sweet paddler.
  15. What do you use your angle grinder for? There were a few voids I need to fill (really! This is supposed to be marine!) Really I think they were just knots in inner plies that were solid before they got chopped in half. No big. I'll fill the holes with a little goop, drill some oversized sewing holes, goop them, redrill, paint, and have a boat! Whoo!
  16. Your name makes so much sense, now. You can call them "sports". Heh heh. Sounds like a rough gig, you got. Enjoy your time in the air, brother, and fly safely. Peace, Robert
  17. Ah, shoot, man, just a few minutes with a few round files. Asides, I'm take this one to my special hardwood guy, because he says I never show him nothing I make or fix. The real reason, though, is I decided to gift it. Got this luthier friend what don't believe a regular old doofus can just make a plane. Ha! I got proof. Oh, it just looks shiny because the oil is wet. After a good wipe, it sorta looks like it's been handled for a lifetime. I came in for a water break, but I'm go back out and longboard some more. Second round of filler is done on the frolic, and I think I'm ready to glass. Today supposed to be scorching again, though, so I'll futz on the plane wedge through the afternoon/evening bake off. The teens I balk at...
  18. Guys, please, I am out of my depth, but... It seems to me (ha!) that some sort of hard top could be made to attach to a windshield frame? Like a goofy little fall cabin or some such, but classy. Really, I was looking at my friend's old blazer truck being restored in my yard (what?), and that made me think. Perhaps a sufficiently strong windshield/side window assembly could be made, and a lightweight top with struts in the back could be bolted or unbolted? Sort of like a hard Bimini. The struts could even be tubing on hinges, so the whole deal could fold flattish for storage? Off the boat, obviously. That may be the stupidest idea ever, but it wouldn't be the first I've had! I like the thinking and sharing happening on this forum. It don't do like that everywhere in boat land! Peace, Robert
  19. I did way hokier. I built fillers to go between the boat and the garage door frame. This on a roll up door, not flip up. The bow of the boat stuck out of the garage, covered by a pop up carport thing. Whenever I worked on it, I opened the door fillers and raised the door. It looks terrible and funny, but my neighbor's have always been cool, because I am. This was at the old house. The worst part of that build was it was a narrow space, too. I attached staging planks directly to the wall, so I could get at the bottom. This was a 28 foot sharpie. I sometimes miss that dumb boat. Right now I'm facing a similar dilemma. Not enough room for two boats and supplies, so there is a lot of walking around the long way, stacking stuff, building staging, whatever. As PAR said, this is a gig from problem solvers. Ain't no time to whine. Sit and moan a tick, but then hop to and figure it out. Or ask us. Shoot, a few of us have been, ahem, learning for years. The hardest part is starting, after that, you just have to finish... Best of luck, Peace, Robert
  20. That is so sad. Because I wasn't there! Lovely picture.
  21. Erling it up. After it won't take no more, I'll let it dry. The wedge I'm going to carve today, to make it something other than a plain thing. Anywho...
  22. Or gathered up and turned into a WEAPON! You supply your own broom handle.
