Summer Breeze - Core Sound 17, Mk-3
Action Tiger replied to Chick Ludwig's topic in B & B Yachts Forum
Dang it, Ken, why do you have to live way down on the bottom! I normally have success with bass on top water lures, especially sliders, but I do slow down sometimes and really fish. These are actually baby streamers, sort of like a minnow pattern, but an imitation, roughly, of our little shad. The sparkly head actually has a little lead wire under. We have lots of clear water and heavy pressure, so fishing here is all about finesse. A strip, pause, strip, pause, sets them all aflutter. They sink really slowly on a floating line, but fairly quickly on a sink tip. Sorry, Chick. Peace, Robert -
The lash works! Very nice looking boat skeleton. Peace, Robert

You know what's more fun than watching paint dry? Watching glue dry... Anxious to see it. This is going to be cool, I think. Peace, Robert

Oh, man, I'm just a dumb old farm boy, what had to figure out the city when the bank decided the farm would be more valuable as a strip mall, and my pop split. I never had money to burn, but always spent it on good tools. I have a trove a high quality hand tools, but they have been collected over my lifetime. My skills with my tools, and adaptability have allowed me to avoid having many "real" jobs. Most of my time has been my own, and I've been able to say no whenever I felt like. Even in college. My skills got me that, but skills with the tools. Like your dad, you know, it was kind of both. His skills, combined with that plane, made magic, right? My favorite plane in the world cost me about 10 bucks when I bought it. It's a cruddy little cast aluminum trimming plane, like a miniature block plane. It's on the second blade, this one some a2 I snagged from a friend, but it is as cheap, crummy, and magical as any tool I've owned. To look at it, you would swear it was a cheap import, but it was made right here in the USofA. I hope one day my own kids will hold it and think of me...

Aw, Ken. I jest, I jest. Asides, it's these little bad boys work so well. I call them psychedelic murder. -

Its okay, I promise. The flake and the motor is the same thing. Also, there will always be a cooler, mostly eatin eggs, fruits, water. I fish for food, mainly, so I take a few decent sized fish when we eat fish, and their corpses will also go into the cooler. Hehe. The rest of the time I consider it my duty to fish like the rest of the doodads, so the little guys learn how to grow up to be good sized. I let the kids handle that. That's when I boat, or birdwatch, or something other than sit still. You left out the worst part, though, Chick, because you couldn't see it. You can't catch no bass with a fly rod. I will make a concerted effort to collect you some photos of turkles, to be sure. I'll go fartin around out in the slough next week while the frolic glass is hardening... -

Here's my new bass boat. I Tom Sawyered the kids into helping, with the provision they can own it and be in charge, but I can use it whenever I want. It has one TigerPower, with a two CubPower optional package. -
HA HA! Do you know where he could score some?

I wondered where you were going with that foam. Very nice! Peace, Robert

Thanks for the kind words, Frank. I'm not really a fancy type guy, but I do like little embellishments. I am an artist, after all. The wedge head actually started because I needed a knob to help center and set the wedge while fiddling with the blade. The knob was an offcut from a little cleat I made (you don't throw stuff away, do you?), and my wife said it looked like a bird, so I tried to make it bird like. Providence dictated it would make the perfect little palm rest. It wasn't more than a few hours of futzing. I do fiddly stuff like this when I can't sit still, but can't make a racket. It could be done in a weekend of puttering. Still, anyone with an empty case and $1200 bucks PM me...I'm kidding. But, still... Peace, Robert

For the record, my bike looks just like the bike on the bike lane sign. Black, one speed, coaster brake, chain guard. But it has a basket. I just fix bikes for rich guys trying to buy back a squandered life. All these little hustles have kept me from having to squander mine. Whoo-hoo! We're taking a trip next week in our new punt and old canoe, while I let glass cure. Monday is the glassening. Gotta rush this frolic now to get to old number 55! Hurry up and get on that boat. You got a cooler to bring iced tea... I really am happy your light worked out. -

Awesome! Next time, tie the messenger line to a nut, then use a magnet outside. We use very small versions of that system to run wires through bike frames. Yes, Virginia, electrical wires, for the electronic derailleurs. Yup. Computers in bikes now. I can reprogram your shifting profile and characteristics with a laptop. Happy your light works, buddy. Now go use it! Peace, Robert -
Wrong! You forgot the boat length of chain first. Bolt that to the motor, then shackle your rode to that. You don't want to chafe the rode and lose your expensive anchor, now.

Okay. I had to trim the wedge several times to get the throat to stay clear enough, but it's finally starting to work well. With an uncapped blade, it's probably best to go as thick as possible, but I just used what I had. I made a bunch of little blanks from some old sawzall blades, and this may be one. Whatever. Remember it ain't gonna work perfect right off the bat, but no plane does. Tune and rune, until you're in tune. Wax your sole, and strop your blade often. Peace, Robert

Action Tiger builds sailboat. With epoxy!

Tools are tools, brother. I would use a surform plane on plywood, or, yep, an angle grinder with a flappy wheel. Plywood dulls blades fast. Have fun. It's going to be great! Peace, Robert

I think I would do a solid breasthook that stops short of the frame. You can stack laminate one from ply, which will give you the approximate bevel, which you can then work down, or fill with thickened epoxy. The ends toward the center of the boat can be nicely rounded and chamfered, and it will look pretty slick. The alternative would be a solid wood breast hook, carved to fit. Either of these could be glued in and screwed through the gunwale, if that's the preferred method. They could also be lashed in. A cap could also be employed in either style, to engage the gunwale inboard and on top. Just thinking with my thumbs... Peace, Robert

I got hot, so I had to sit and drink some water. Glad I could help. Back to my paddle, now! Peace, Robert

Put the coaming in place, and note where the seams need to end. Stitch up the boat. You know where the seams start, remember? Then sew in the coaming. It will suck out a tremendous amount of slack, if you have any left. Ask me how I know... You are so close! Good work, and good luck! Don't psych yourself out. It's easy. Really. Peace, Robert
-
Do it. I'm too old and dumb to get that randy in a kayak anymore, but your idea looks good. Try it. It looks sound, but if it isn't perfect, I bet you know a guy what can fix it, or even make a new one if it comes to that. Do it! Peace, Robert

Straight up the nicest, coolest paint job I've seen. Equal to any boat I've seen. It is simply a Lovely job. Fantastic work. And, your wife has fantastic taste in paddling hats. My wife and I usually try to score his and her broad brimmed cowboy hats from here or Mexican style. We have burned through about 8 pairs in more than twice as many years... When I launch my firefly, by the end of summer, honest, I'll don my latest paddling hat to share, too. Lastly. That is probably the best place in the world to go paddling in these boats, and it looks stunning. Don't pinch yourself, brother, you might wake up from your dream! Peace, Robert

Thank you. I have done that race two times, back before it was cool. And way cheaper... It is my favorite race course ever. How was the river this year? Peace, Robert
