  1. Hi Steve ... I'm attaching a photo with this post using the "Attachments" box under the edit box.

Note that there is a note next to the "Attach This File" button that says "Used X.XXMB of your XXXXX global upload quota (Max. single file size: 15MB).

Let me know if you have used up your file upload quota and I'll increase it.

  2. Thank you Jim. I will keep the dates in mind. I have been toiling in solitude here in these landlocked parts, good to know I can have company.

I added your blog to our Links section (and Jim, feel free to add your CABBS.org events to our calendar as well!)

  3. Hi, would love to see a CS 15, 17, or 20 (and maybe bum a sail???)

    Thanks,

    -Bill R.

PS: I haven't read the rules on posting links to commercial sites here, but if you google "Okoumefest 2011" you'll find all the details. I have never been, but it sounds like a good time even if I don't get to meet a CS owner/builder.

We are pretty casual about things here, so long as its related to boating. So links to any boat building or boating functions you find interesting are OK.

If its truly a sales pitch for a service or product you sell, we ask that it be put in the Classifieds section. But I think things of general interest like boat shows, etc., are fine in any of the forums!

  4. Until recently, I was accessing a single web page that had links to perhaps 10 or more Core Sound build blogs. Now I can't seem to find it! Does anyone know where this page is? It is interesting to see how people build different mods and rig their boats.

I wonder if I had that list at some point. I did have a links program that crashed and burned just before the server move and transition to the new software here. I should probably try to rebuild a B&B Yachts Designs section in our current small Links section.

  5. It still says I can't submit a link. Also, my post count seems to be at zero and holding. Perhaps the two are related?

OK, try it now. The post counting function was turned off by default because of the conversion process from the old software to the new software.

  6. Inquiring minds want to know: Did you get out yesterday?

We wound up taking the big boat out for a while yesterday. It looked to be a good sailing day on Allatoona. I've got finish putting the CB back in the CS17 before I can get it out again.

Yeah, Scott, we want an update!

  7. I'll find out shortly whether it's true that treatment with Poli Prep will remove any aged material, allowing recoating with a few coats of Poli Glow to work the same magic as it did last year. I expect it will.

I went to the links page, but the little box says "you cannot submit a link." Perhaps because I'm new here and my post count is too low?

Let us know how it works.

I upgraded you to regular "Member" status, so you should be able to post a link now. Let me know if you can't. The new software works really well at filtering spammers out automatically, but it does have a few quirks about other settings that I don't quite grep yet.

  8. I put Poli Glow on our Sun Cat about a year ago, and it still looks pretty darn good. I'm going to recoat it soon because it is not quite as shiny as it was a year ago, but the Poli Glow was much easier and lasted much longer than the polish/wax I tried before.

    Details:

    http://www.tropicalboating.com/boat-repairs/waxpoliglow.html

You should add your site to our Links Page! The pics are pretty impressive, and the one thing I've heard is that if you let the Poli Glow go too long it can dull and looks as bad or worse. The Poli Prep takes it off even when its aged, so its not a disaster. I'm thinking that re-applying it every year would be easier than the compounding and waxing.

Scott, one advantage of teak oil is that you retain all the grip of the wood, so it doesn't get slippery when wet. I'm just using regular old Helmsman spar varnish this time. It will last a year or so.

  9. Looks fast to me! A lot of sail area for a small wetted surface. You'll have to let us know what kind of performance you get.

I'm varnishing my teak on my plastic boat now, hoping to get her back in the water this spring. I did the obligatory compounding and waxing, always thinking I'm this close to using something like Poli-Glow on it. I like the looks of a colored hull, but man, that dark green always gets so ratty looking by the end of the season.

  10. Well, I can't figure it out. I went ahead and set the forum so "members" can start topics for now. I may have to make a unique user grounp "Kudzu Moderators" to give you the rights I thought were in place. But until that time, you should be able to move errant posts into the regular Kudzu Craft Forum.

  11. I just took a look at it ... its at http://www.opensportfisher.org/forum/ for the benefit of the rest of the folks (you can't post links until you have 3 posts to your credit, so I posted it for you!)

I'm not much of a fisherman ... all that overhead casting is bad for your sails, and monofilament is hard to get out of baggywrinkles ... but I know there are some fans of the boat style around here. Graham of B&B Yacht Designs has built quite a few custom boats in the style (he's "Designer" in the support forums for B&B here).

  12. I plan to take my Belhaven south and sail out of CI Harbor one year. I even have dreams about it. I'll let you know when the time draws near...

Let us know when you are heading out this way! I keep threatening to visit Graham's get together each year, and get waylaid; I have not seen any of his boats up close, so I'd love to see your Belhaven. (We are once again planning to visit NC this year to take in Graham's little bash).

  13. Hi Frank ~ I don't want to hijack this thread, but I left you a reply on the Design Forum re: Oragami. Did you ever build her?

Also, I hail from Pt. Hueneme. Spent many days working and playing along the Ventura/Channel Islands/Oxnard coasts. Was great back in the 70's!!

I have the distinction of having the longest boat builds in the known universe. I have a Spindrift started ... the centerboard is done but nothing else. My brother is building a nesting dinghy he swears will fit on the foredeck, but he has a Catalina 22, so I think it will fit on his foredeck, but not the foredeck of my Potter 19! And I keep dreaming of a folding boat to use as a dinghy, but haven't had the time in the last few years to do anything.

We love it here; Jan and I grew up in Orange County, but it is a mess now with traffic and buildings everywhere. Ventura County is more like OC was back when we were kids. The beaches are mostly deserted in Oxnard still, there are sand dunes and it looks like a real beach still. We sail out of either Channel Islands or Ventura harbors, and have a great time.

  14. That should work! Should look good too, with the traditional three strand construction. Its pretty common now, but I remember when I looked into getting it for my Weekender, it was about .75 a foot!

  15. Hi, I'm going to be purchasing new rope for my Weekender and I was thinking of changing from 1/4" that I'm currently using to 3/16" which is less costly and should work smoother with less resistance especially on the gaff up and down. Will 3/16" be ok? Your Thoughts?

Modern yacht braids are certainly strong enough, so the thing to take into consideration is how it feels in your hand. The loads on a Weekender peak and throat halyards are pretty light, so it shouldn't be bad. If you really have to pull hard on a line, then the smaller size might be less comfortable. I used larger line for my main sheet because I knew I would be holding it most of the time (I think I used 3/8"; hard to remember now). But for halywards and even jib sheets, that you really don't hold on to that long, smaller line can work well.

  16. Thanks, Dave. I think I have found the happy medium in thumbnail size and scaling for the imported images (the ones hosted elsewhere that are linked into the posts). Its taken me a long time to get used to the new software's Admin functions, but it is much more stable on the back end (part of that may be the new server as well).

  17. I thought the thumbnails were too small on the forum, so I currently have the settings so that images stored on our server are either full size if =< 300 x 300, or a resized thumbnail is created in that size that can be expanded when clicked.

The new thumbnail size is shown in the post by Steve Day Rescue Minor Under Construction

Linked images are still resized to fit the screen. For some linked images see:

Building the 10' Atkins Sailing Dinghy and Cooper Jr.

Let me know what you think of the change!

  18. Ah, I get it. This should do it, then :)

It doesn't look like its actually updating your post count ... in the forums. It is in the Profile. Can't figure this one out, so I'll manually update you (I keep telling myself the upgrade was "only money ...")
