  1. Don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm sittin' home listening to the wind, and watching the rain. Guess we'll try again a little later. All i gotta do is find an open weekend---youth group at church keeps me pretty busy! Usually do my sailing and cruising during the week.
  2. In practice, it doesn't seem to be a problem, unless the graphite makes it so. Back in my outboard racing days, we tried all sorts of stuff like graphite on our hull bottoms. Never could tell a difference. some studies showed that a clean, smooth bottom freshly washed with detergent worked as well or better than anything. Interestingly, one of the worse things to do was to wax it.
  3. Looking real "iffy" for me. Kind of a fair weather sailor anyway. I'd like to get some experience with the boat before tackling the winds at 15 to 25. With the rain on top of the wind, it doesn't look like much fun---just an endurance thing. I'm sure that "Summer Breeze" would be fine. It's me that's he problem! I'll decide for sure Friday morning. What about the rest of you guys? We don't want Alan and Graham out there alone, do we?
  4. Yeah, wha-da-ya think Oyster? Should we go, or should we postpone? How 'bout the rest of y'all??? Saturday looks rainy, kinda cool, and purdy breezy. Friday may be ok, and Sunday is good----so far. How 'bout you Graham? (He knows the weather better than the rest of us.)
  5. I'm gonna be out of touch for a few days. Keep up the conversation and planning. I'll be back to check-in on y'all before the mess-about.
  6. So, ya gonna make it with the "Naughty Lady." (Get the potato cannons and water balloons loaded because if I can make it I will be in tin hull stinkpot - blasphemy!), Hokey hydro? Just remember, I'm on YOUR SIDE!!! Shoot the other guys.
  7. I'll be sailing around in Lookout Bight Saturday morning. That's where I'll spend the night Friday night, too. Probably Saturday night, too. Look for the green sailboat---that'll be me. If it's a powerboat, it'll be Graham and Carla. If it's a submarine---HELP!
  8. Summer Breeze wanted to take me sailing yesterday. What a gorgeous day! This is the first chance she's had to kick-up-her-heels a bit. Sure Hope it's like this for the mess-about! It was the first time sailing for my 15 year old grandson, Levi. He helped "Breezy" to get ready at the ramp and got to steer as we got away from the dock. (The kicker was in charge of the power department at the time.)Then, on the way out of the creek to the Nuese river, we had a nice "summer-like" breeze to guide us along under sail. Things were great all the way out of the creek and into the river, until a mess of clouds drifted across the sun. You know how it is with sailing this time of year---gusts, wind direction change, HEELING. "This things gonna turn over!!!" was Levi's mantra as the day wore on. Somehow we managed to partake of our mid-day feast of Vienna sausage, crackers, soda, and cookies. How he managed to eat while holding on with both hands and both legs, I'll never know! Well, teen-aged boys will ALWAYS find a way to eat. Eventually we made it back. Levi allowed as to it being "kinda fun". Summer Breeze got to try out her new rigging mods, and I'm now confident that we can make it through the mess-about without problems. That's it for now...see y'all in a week or so.
  9. Wish i could!! It's sunday, though. Wife has a "procedure" on Monday.
  10. I also would buy it if you could get it to the Havelock,NC. area. I would be willing to pay toward expenses. Where do you live? Looks like a little over 800 miles and about 12-1/2 hrs depending on where you are in Indiana. I may be able to pay for most of your fuel, and you can stay over at my house before heading home.
  11. This is gettin' frustratin'!!! Here we are waiting for all your tall tales, and...nuttin'. Come on. Hurry and scribble some of your cruisin' tales down. Springs here, and warm days are a-comin'. Ya won't wanna spend time written' then, y'all. Do it now. How about that time when ya were sailin' out to........and....... That's a good-un. Tell it!!!
  12. On small boats with small wire or cable ties, I can leave the wire/tie in and do the whole fillet and tape at once. But for bigger boats like the CS-20 Mk-2, I tack. If you do the tack fillets with a radius tool and clean up along the edge of the radius, this method works well. It's very neat and easy then to pull the wire ties, fill in the blank spaces, and tape. The heavy wire you need to pull stubborn panels together is tough to pull out if you force it with a screwdriver into the corner and putty over it. You need a pretty big radius to cover it too. Find what works best for you. We often differ in our opinions. What works best for one of us is OUR best way to do it.
  13. I'll be heading home to be at the ramp in Beaufort by 4 at the latest. Gotta beat the power boaters! They zip into the ramp before us "baggie wrinkles" can get to the dock.
  14. Here is a site about camping: http://www.nps.gov/calo/planyourvisit/camping.htm It says something about water at a couple of locations. Sounds pretty "iffy", better bring plenty of your own.
  15. Tom, we'll miss you! But have a great time at the show. I've not had a chance to get Summer Sand out after some modifications. Haven't been out in anything but light breeze so far---hope it's a nice weekend! If you see a centerboard sticking up---SEND HELP!!! HokeyHydro posted this awhile back for you beach-cruiser types. "No driftwood - must bring your own firewood. Scrounging wood from the beach/dunes on the Shack is forbidden. Campfire allowed, must build it below the high tide line. Bring a camp shovel to dig a latrine". There are primatve bathrooms near the lighthouse (no showers), but that's a long walk from where you would be camping.
  16. I Posted 19 March 2013 - 04:53 PM IT'S ALMOST HERE, Y'ALL!!!! Here's a repost from awhile back just to remind you guys: "It's time to get serious about this thing y'all. It's a go for April 19th. thru 21st. I like to just go with no definite plans. Just a bunch of boat nuts getting together for---whatever. If some of y'all want to plan food, events, and such, that's fine too. I plan to launch in Beaufort sometime Friday, and anchor up at lookout that night. Meanwhile I'll be sailing behind Shack, or up around Lookout. I'll be in my green CS-20 Mk2. If you see me, come over and say "Howdy". (That's her up in the corner of this post.) Haven't settled on a name yet---Another Princess? Summer Breeze? Summer Sand? I dunno..." I've decided---names Summer Breeze. Hopin' and prayin' to see a mess of y'all there! Have a safe trip from where ever yur comin' from.
  17. We'll try our best to have a great event, Scott. In my case, the "cold one" will be iced tea!
  18. Thanks Rick!!! i think we're gonna have a great event.
  19. I wish I could come, but I have a prior commitment---Youth car wash at church (I'm the leader). I wish you the best!!!
  20. I wouldn't have anything else but sail track on any cruising boat. Maybe a small daysailer where you wrap the sail around the mast would be different. I had track on my P22 and was very happy with it. Now I have my CS20 Mk2 with track and full battens. Works GREAT. I Drop the sail complete with battens into a "sausage" bag (full length, zippered sail bag), and slide it into the cabin for trailering and storage. You can check-it-out at the mess-about. By the way, are you bringing a boat? Where we will be gathering is at Cape Lookout, and there is no bridge---gotta go by boat! Maybe one of us could ferry you out.
  21. Beautiful day today! Let's pray that it's like this for the mess-about. I finally settled on a name for my CS20 Mk-2. "Summer Breeze". Lookout for us at Lookout. (Awww, I made a funny---sort of.)
  22. Otto, sorry about your procedure, praying that all goes well. Maybe you can make the BandB mess-about this fall.? We'll try to have fun and post pictures. Hope it warms up by then! I've read that the sound used to freeze over some winters---hope we don't have to chop ice. ---
