  1. I haven't been able to work on my kayak much lately but today I did start looking at mounting the foot braces. Thanks Jeff, for the fast shipping. This is what I have come up with, but thought I'd ask opinions of you more experienced builders before putting screws in. I checked clearances and all misses the skin. The handles when in the lock position go down. I have about 3/8" clearance from the fabric. I can get more by switch sides on the braces and making the handles rotate up to lock. My aluminum brackets are 2 1/2" long. Is that enough to anchor them securely? That is all that I could make out of the piece I had, but I can certainly buy more. (Edit) I went and looked a Dave's build and it sure make more sense the way he did it. Guess I will do some more work! Got to say, today is the first day I tried to sit in mine. Not easy for an old stiff man! And that is without the coaming!

  2. I don't think he is concerned about lashings, but that either the bow or stern piece can not be attached to it's frame then attached to the bracket and be located properly unless both bow and stern assemblies attach to the "outside" (towards their respective end) of their bracket. Therefore either the bow or stern bracked has to be oposite all the rest. I found that the answer is that they do not need to be oposite Jerry. The way the joined bow or stern pieces fit to each other, and that so much of the bracket is trimmed off to allow the stringers to fit that the bracket is not in the way. of the bow or stern assembly that is on the "wrong" side of the bracket. The bow or stern piece fits inside the slot of the bracket, and there fore the bracket is not in the way.

  3. What you show is exactly what I do on all my boats. Yes the adjustments can be slightly awkard to reach but once you get them set, they stay set. It's not like your constantly adjusting them, And this arrangement gives you the most clearance for getting in and out.

  4. I think its the old story here. If its too good to be true... In today's market its still the best strategy to buy from established brands with a history of excellence and folks with whom you have an active relationship.
