  1. I thought your post was a direct reply, and how fast someone could type (not me, using an incredible small smartphone) Yes the two planes thing... there is so much epoxy between the stripes and especially the rope that it doesn't flex much.
  2. Another example, seems as if almost everyone here has its own solution: I tried to use only leftover (ply)wood stripes from my stich&glue kayak, so I laminated stripes of 4mm okoume / 1inch wide/ for my coaming and with a rope at the outside using epoxy. Then I filled the gap between the wood and the rope with dark brown epoxy (not shown in the picture). It's strong enough I think.
  3. Searching polyester for my Curlew, I found some candidates in fabrics used for upholstering furniture. Uncoated/ not impregnated and very strong.
  4. http://www.extremtextil.de/catalog/Ballistic-Nylon-high-tenacity-greige-fabric-850den-310g-sqm::191.html It's Nylon... a german shop. Shipping costs within the EU should be ok.
  5. Thanks!! especially for posting pictures: -> it's been so much fun building my kayak: first of all, this forum is so useful! Spending hours and hours for reading older posts. 80% of the time I had to transform the "oz and foot and inch" and so on to our metric system before each step and seaching for material, and now I have to translate almost all of the special english words... should start a small thread "tips&tricks for non-woodworking european newbies"
  6. Do you think it is important that these are "frame" boats with flexible skin? (vs. the solid wood stich&glue / wood strip kayaks) Some of the commercial lightweight carts are very short, not useful here. Maybe a stupid newbie question, but where would I strap the cart? You have to hit frames, using the two with 1 foot spacing behind the cockpit?
  7. I was waiting for some instructions for building a small Kudzu cart including typical parts (plywood sides with part of the Kudzu logo, stringers, lashing, ...)
  8. What a beautiful boat congrats! Did you take the pictures of the boat (except where you're sitting in it...)? Makes a perfect triple (boat, sky/beach/harbour, picture). Could have been pictures out of a travel magazine. Especially the "female" touch of the build process motivates/encourages me for finishing my "Curlew" the next weeks. Following the forum for weeks, that's what I missed here
