  1. I planned on using titebond III since i have alot of it from building primitive bows. I can atleast vouch for its durability under the extreame tension on a longbow. Ive also heard of people using gorilla glue its its water activated and how well it spreads.
  2. I'll probably just built a custom miter box with a set angle and use a pull saw. I've seen people cut nice scarf joints free hand with a bandsaw but not this guy. My hands are steady as heck till I have to cut a straight line.
  3. Just ordered my plans from Jeff for a Shad! I will also be contacting a lumber yard in Austin tomorrow to check the availability of some baltic birtch. Can't wait to get started!
  4. Thanks for all the info!
  5. I was really mulling over witch boat I wanted to build, now I'm about 99% certain I want to build a shad. Sweet looking boat man!
  6. I can get 12 ft boards no problem from lowes and the few I looked at had good end grain just trying to ask all the questions and do all the research before I dive into a build.
  7. Did you order your plywood online?
  8. This would allow me to use 8 foot blards vs 12, not sure if I can get cedar in 16 foot boards or not in my area.
  9. Can a stinger/gunwale/keel have more than 1 scarf joint? I know I'm not the only one whos having diffaculty finding lumber that'll suit my needs.
  10. Just wanted to say thanks to Jeff, I got my book today and it has really cleared some things up. I like Jeff's comment about going to the paint store and telling them what you intend to use their products for. The guy at Shermon Williams sounded justed as excited as I did when I told him I was buying paint for a Kayak I plan to build myself. He told me to stop in and share my progress. Anyways Thanks Again! -Kody
  11. Thanks for the welcome! I also forgot to ask if an oil based enamal will work with polyester?
  12. Hello, I am new to the forum and building boats. I plan on ordering plans for the Vardo soon and have some questions about finishing. When I was looking at skin and read about the recycled polyester haveing little fibers that rought up the paint, witch can be remedied by sanding between coats. Wouldn't it make sence to use primer first rather than paint directly on the fabric? Also wouldn't primer also help prevent the paint from bleeding if a 2 tone paint jobe is applied? ( Whitch I plan to do ) Thanks! -Kody
