  1. Thanks again. II need to quite thinking and start building! I have a nice stash of 16'X6"X3/4" quarter sawn Sitka spruce, well aged. Looking forward to building such a nice canoe with such nice wood.
  2. Thanks for the update, please ignore my PM . I've decided to build one after your report, thanks.
  3. Nice boat indeed, I'm considering a more utilitarian build of the same canoe. How does it paddle now that you have some time in. My daughters are 125 pounds so what do lighter paddlers think? Did you experience any tricky spots not logged in this incredible thread? Would you rate a sturdy but utilitarian build as a good father teen daughter build? You must be justifiably proud of the superb quality build. Thank you for the hard work to assemble this thread as well.
  4. Thanks Jeff, I certainly don't want any trade secrets ;-). I really like your approach to design out the hogging potential. Could you elaborate on the design a bit more. The white water lines are evident in abysdncr's detailed build thread. Does the Wallops Island 12 have any rocker? Center height? Bow height? Tracking, hard, medium, medium loose? This is for loaded canoe day fun at 125 - 150 lbs. Bob Calgary
  5. I'm interested in the Wallops 12 canoe. Researching noted that keel hogging pops up often enough on SOF threads. Any discussion on avoiding, building strategies, upgraded materials etc.?
  6. For fun I tried to jump around on your new store. I visited the plan page, then Messabout page and clicked on the link to your design page and got an error message that the page wasn't on the server. It is really quick though.
  7. Amen, I felt floor underlay ply was better stuff but too thin. I assumed we got the dregs because Calgary is a no marine town!
  8. Thanks Jeff, I've used the ply on small projects and really enjoy working with it compared to box store ply or even fir marine ply.
  9. I notice that Baltic Birch is often recommended. The local stuff is quite nice but the glue line is not dark like the regular outdoor plywoods. Is this a concern?
