Bernd v. Hoesslin
Not yet a launch. But my Vardo is slowly coming into shape. Pictures of the launch will hopefully follow sunday, or Monday.
Kudzu
Looks good, just saw your post on Duckworks too. I moved this to the proper forum for you.
Action Tiger
Schönes boot! Well, nice skeleton of a boat, anyway. Viel glück.
Bernd v. Hoesslin
Thank you Jeff, your plans really worked great and yes, it is a big advantage to read the manual first! ;-). Thank you action tiger for the good wishes, your german is way better than my english is!!
Action Tiger
Bernd, your English is impeccable. Ich hat Deutsch gelernt wan ich war ein kinder. Ich habe noch einige. Apprendí Espańol tambien. One of my favorite scientists, runners, and writers is named Berndt. Berndt Heinrich. Very similar to your own name. Have fun with your boat. Bernd v. Hoesslin
Little Update of my Vardo buildalong experience:
Bernd v. Hoesslin
Ups, alle the pictures are upside down, what did I do? 1. Footrests installed 2. My mother giving me a helping hand with the sewing (ask your mother, she knows how to do it...) 3. Bow and stern ready 4. My uncle at the saw. Good to have parents, friends and relatives!! Action Tiger
I'm pretty computer dumb, Bernd, so I can't help flip over the pictures. I do know your boat looks nice, and so does your family.
Hirilonde
I understand the side ways pictures, you likely took them with the camera side ways to get a picture in portrait format instead of landscape. The upside down ones I don't get at all, took them standing on your head? Most of us here are adept at viewing from all angles, no big deal. When you load pictures into the forum it does so as they are formatted in your photo software. You will need to rotate them there before importing into the forum. Most camera software has editing functions, and the simplest is rotating pictures. There should be a symbol appearing near one of the upper corners of the photo while being displayed on your computer. It looks like most of a circle with an arrow head on one end of the circular line. Each click will rotate the picture 90° in the direction of this symbol. You will have to use this function for all photos taken side ways or standing on your head. She looks good, even sideways and upside down. Good advice on consulting mothers regarding the sewing. Creativity isn't measured by how much you know, but by how much you can find out when you need it. The people here are good at both ends of that process
Bernd v. Hoesslin
Ready with th sewing! All the stitching is done. Yesterday, I broke the coaming. Thank god, nothing serious happened and I had to glue it over night..
Bernd v. Hoesslin
From bow, from stern and inside, upside down again, sorry. Tried to turn it, but didn't work...
Bernd v. Hoesslin
Sorry for not updating my post. But holidays have been over for more than two weeks now. Here some new pics:
Bernd v. Hoesslin
Sadly, the coaming broke, when I first tried to put it on my boat, so I tried to repair it, but it didn't really work. So in the last two weeks, I experimented much, to make a new coaming. Hopefully, I can put it on the boat next weekend. Then it will be ready for a real Vardo launch at last!! labrat
Good luck with the coaming repair Bernd. When finished you will have a kayak to be proud of. The skin has gone on fantastically well - very tight and smooth - and the painted decoration is really cool.
Action Tiger
Agreed. The paint job is amazing, and I love the name.
Pilotlon
Stitching, color, illustrations....all wonderful. Way nice job!! You will get many "oooooohs" and "aaaaahhhhs" with this one!
Bernd v. Hoesslin
At last, my Vardo hit the water! The coaming works great. I did a mixture of laminated ash veneers and an upper ring of plywood. Glued together with epoxy and for safety reasons, assured it with 20, or so screws. Should last for at least one generation... :-) The first, who tried the boat was my son, followed by myself and my wife. We had a great time, playing on the water of the beautiful "Staffelsee".
