Painting over polyurethane

Best thing is test a small spot. If you have any leftover it could be a on a scrap of wood. That way you know if the paint is compatible before you try it on the boat. I am betting that a light scuffing and you can paint over it no problem with what ever you like.

 

I would prefer an oil based paint, they are tougher than latex or water based. Of course those choices are getting smaller and smaller now days.  Latex works fine, just not nearly as durable.
