oversize notches

I cut the keel stringer a little short on my boat and just glued some wood shim to the end of the stringer to fill up the gap. After the glue cured, I sanded the shim to match the stringer. It's not quite the same as what you're talking about, but similar. How much bigger is the cut?

I have destroyed my original plans when I cut out the frames with the plans glued on to the plywood. The instructions in the assembly manual for short shot give instruction for the stringers as Gunwales are 1-1/2 x 5/8, one set chine stringers are 1 x 5/8,  the rest of the stringers are 5/8 x 5/8. Printed on the plans "On multi-chined boats some of the stringers are 3/4 x 5/8". My deck, keel, and outside chine stringer notches are a good fit, the others are the ones that are loose. The 3/4 notch makes them a good fit. Would some one verify this is the correct build for short shot.

I had a keel notch that was cut too deep. I was able to cut a shim to fit between the keel and the frame that brought the keel back to the right position.  Perhaps for a notch that was too large in both depth and width the stringer could be wrapped with a few turns of lashing to thicken it for a better fit.

Had to get to my computer but there are no 5/8 x 5/8 stringers in Short Shot, They are 3/4 x 5/8.

I am going to reword that on the plans so that it is clear.

Jeff, I cut my stringer notches very precisely...per the diagram/plans, and the 3/4" figure that Hbrew mentions is just about right.  Thank goodness I measured everything before cutting stringers, as the instruction manual still mentions 5/8 by 5/8 inches.  A 5/8" depth will work OK, and clear the sides of the notches.  However, when I cut a sample stringer at 5/8" wide, it rattled around in the notch.  At first, I thought I had mis-cut that one.  However, they were all right around the 3/4'' width, and I finished cutting the stringers today at that width, and they fit nice and snug now.

So my book says (revision 5.0) for the Firefly:

Gunwales are 1-1/2" x 5/8"

one set of chine stringers are 1" x 5/8"

the rest of the stringers are 5/8" x 5/8"

But the depth of the frame slots on the Firefly kits for the keel and top stringers are more like 3/4".  So should the top and keel stringers both be 3/4"?

By the way, on the kit, the stringers are all 5/8" wide except for the chine stringers that are 1" and the 1 1/2" Gunwales. So I don't get what Pilotlon said about the 5/8" width rattling. My problem is more that 5/8" stringers would recess in the top and bottom frame notches.

I was a little confused when you answered a question about the Firefly with a statement about the Short Shot.  Maybe you know they are the same, but that isn't obvious to me.
