lt291x
Hi, I was wondering if it would somehow be possible to get the Ravenswood plans in an electronic format. I am a high school student who enjoys kayaking and am taking a CAD course and have access to CNC equipment, so it would be awesome if I could use it to cut some of the simpler components, such as the slots for the ribs, and to be able to see the plans in 3D would be beneficial. Of course the plans would only be used for one boat as specified in the full sized paper plans (I don't have the money to build more than one anyway). I really like the way that the Ravenswood looks and it seems to be perfect for my application which would be mainly open water/ sea kayaking with a little wave fun thrown in, mainly from boat wakes. I am also extremely impressed with the durability and portability of the SOF kayaks vs. other types and I think I could build it for significantly cheaper than buying a plastic hull or fiberglass. Thanks for a response, I know you're super busy.
Kudzu
Sorry but No. I don't expect I will ever offer digital files because they are just to simple to pirate. Once one copy get out it can become Pandora's box. There is no way to stop the spread. There is a web site out there that offered kayak plans for years. He decided for what ever reason to pull down his site and no longer offer his work. But there are copies of his site all over the internet. People sharing the whole site in digital files and just last week I saw where someone aquired a very similar domain and has published his web site, complete! Despite the fact he pulled it down it is still there. That is why I will never offer digital copies.
Sugarbaker
You may consider taking a look at Jeff's Nimrod Kayak. He offers the coordinates for creating the frame pieces for free through his store. You can then loft those coordinates in your CAD program and make your own plans... as I have done here using AutoCAD and Sketchup. It is time consuming, but a wonderful way to spend a few hours, and may count for some credit in your class.
