Pros and cons of one piece covering or two piece

Hello all,

Just joined the forum and Im in the process of my fist SOF boat. Built on the order of Tom Yosts sea bee plan. Frame is almost complete and starting to think about the covering. Initally was going to cover it with clear vinyl but find myself having doughts about durability. But I do like the idea of stapling the cloth to the gunwales and covering with a rub strip. Thinking on going with 8 oz. polyester from Jeff. Any reasons its not a good idea to do it that way ?

Thanks for any insite on this,

Jim

I haven't done the 2 piece approach with untreated cloth - but I have done it with the vinyl coated polyester (glued and stapled). As 'Action Tiger' said, sewing is so simple I don't see any advantage to using 2 pieces. I imagine either way could result in a good tight skin, and some folks probably like the looks of a rub strip.

I see that a lot of men are scared of sewing. Not sure why though.  I had a mom that was a seamstress and could have been a tailor if she had wanted. I learned a little bit about sewing just being around her.

I have never done a two piece but seems like more work to me and then you have to cover up that seam so that is even more work.
