CS 17 Kit Bottom Ply Question

Good morning Folks!

Quick question-  how have all of you 17 builders dealt with the transition from 1/4 to 3/8 ply on the bottom.  I am assuming the step goes inside the boat- have you all faired it out with epoxy?  Sanded it down?  Enquiring minds want to know.... well at least one does.

Thanks.

It's a good question but don't worry about it. I finished a .CS17 in April and don't even recall the step presenting itself. It is certainly inside the boat but wherever it is I don't recall ever seeing it.....sounds dumb but worry about something else. It disappears with the magic of the design there will be new worries that replace this one in no time.

Be sure you wire the bottom panels at the transom as tight as possible.  That is the one spot that tripped me up that really was not fun to fix later on.  If it's loose, you wind up with a reverse curve that is not apparent until you turn the boat over!  Opt for exterior fairness over interior, as the seats and CB trunk area take care of a good portion of the interior.

Good luck!

Here are a couple of pictures of the transition. It's just a fillet of thickened  epoxy sanded smooth from the 3/8 sheet to the 1/4. I made one of these when I put the panels together and, for some reason, didn't get the other made until after the hull was pulled together.
