Moonman
Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone has ever built or thought of building an Outer Banks 20 without the cabin. Obviously built as is, its a beautiful boat but I don't need a cabin and I do love the lines of this hull. Last fall I spoke to Graham about it and he mentioned that he has had similar inquiries in the past and that he thought someone on the forum had, or is, building one without the cabin? I may have misunderstood on that point, as I haven't seen anything about such a build but if anyone has any input or comments about this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks and best regards, Moonman. keen2buildagain
Hi Moonman, I am presently building an OB-20 without the cabin, living in North Queensland Australia the cabin would have been too hot to use for most of the year so I contacted Graham and he altered the plans somewhat to accommodate an open style boat. At present I am still fairing the hull getting ready for painting and am looking forward to turning her over. I still haven't decided if I will go for a centre or side console, but either way a small one so as not to take up space. (enough for a sounder, throttle and wheel.) Moonman
Hey thanks Trev thats great. How has it been going so far? Any weight projections for the hull? How are you going to do your steering, center console? Any pics? Thanks, Moonman.
keen2buildagain
Moonman, So far still upside down, not much different to any other build. Looking at hydraulic steering and as I said, haven't decided yet which way I will go, centre or side console. As far as weight is concerned, would have to look at the stock left after my initial sheet/s purchase and a guess on the stingers etc. Did you check out Ronnies or Ricks build in the forum? They have a wealth of info on the build. I will try to post some pics if I can figure it out.......I am the original dinosaur when it comes to the world of computers! Moonman
Hey Trev, Thanks and yes, definitely checked out the other builds. Ronnie's is actually only a couple hours north of me here in the Toronto Canada area and I have been to his lake before. He did an awesome job on his boat. Its funny but after looking at boats on my ipad for the last couple years it was the outer banks that caught my wife's eye. She thought it was beautiful. She knows I am thinking of building one, is always glancing over checking out the designs and images I am reviewing, but never said,'thats a great idea'. Still hasn't mind you, but she is talking about features etc so I'm not going to rock the boat so to speak, and ask if she thinks its okay to take on a build, I now have her tacit approval I have my decision down to about three hulls, two of which are B and B designs, Outer Banks or Marissa. Want to pull the trigger on plans after the summer. Moonman.
