Kudzu
I did not make this paddle. It belongs to a friend and for what ever reason it had no tips on it. She asked me to replace them and I snapped some photo as I worked on it this morning.
Action Tiger
Shouldn't this have gone in the Tips and Tricks thread?
Rich D
Very nice. Just curious - do you use any spline or dowels? Or just butt jointed?
labrat
Yep, looks good. More information required though please Jeff - - I'm guessing the existing paddle end was shaped into a tenon and the extra piece was morticed - is that how it was done? - What timber is the tip made of? Kudzu
Just but joined together. On the woodworking forum they are ALL telling me the grain runs the wrong way and it will fail. I agree, but since my first one is 10 years old I would say that it may take a while to fail.

If the wood is stable, and sealed well you may not have any issues. But the tip is easier to break oriented as you have it.
