I just bought the plans so I am cutting everything out from scratch. I have attached a picture of my current progress. Looking for anyone else working on or who has finished a Marissa. I am using the plans but the pictures B&B sent have also been very helpful. If anyone has additional pictures and/or advice, that would be great. I would be happy to share additional pictures I have taken. This is my first boat building or owning. I enjoyed the process of cutting all the pieces of my CS17 out (even though my boat ended up more crooked than a kit would have). I think I would have been more nervous building from a kit than from plans because I can always cut another part when working from plans but when faced with a pristine and near-perfect (robotically!) cut part I'd be afraid I'd mess it up The Marissa design is one of the newer ones so there may not be a lot of people who can share their expertise just yet. I think there may be a few threads on this forum about them, though. I'll do a search and see if I can find any. It was a kit so may not be able to answer your questions. However, I did build my CS17 from scratch so know the process you are going through. I enjoyed the details of it but after building the kit I will probably only build kits in the future. If you have questions, do not hesitate to post them here on the forum. The first big thing I noticed and alway questioned- Could you fiberglass before you flip it? He fiberglassed before flipping. Seems easier to me. Any Pros or Con? I am building this in a one car garage. I am probably going to have a boat flipping party to get it flipped and would rather do it only once. Thoughts? Thanks again. I have made some alterations to the boat that made it more unique and better for my needs and our blue waters . Some one have already posted a link to my tread hear . Don Silsbe Posted May 6, 2015 Report Share Posted May 6, 2015 Since the Bay River Skiff is built right-side up, I have no choice but to flip twice. My big question is when to make that first flip-- before painting the interior, or after? My inclination at this moment is to pain the interior first, but leave the brightwork until last. Comments? I'm thinking that once I get the seat tops trimmed and filleted, maybe I'll flip 'er over & complete the bottom. No, wait. I need to do the c/b trunk before I paint the bottom. Ken_Potts Posted May 7, 2015 Report Share Posted May 7, 2015 Once you flip it you'll probably be surprised how easy it was. As you said, seat tops, centerboard trunk and then the flip. That should work fine and if for some reason you find you have to flip it an extra time it won't be a high-stress event since you'll be experienced.
