Core Sound 17 Mk-3 summer Breeze

Well y'all. It's almost time to start my new boat. as you know, we spent a lot of time fooling around on a CS-15 Mk-3, but finally decided on the 17. Alan says that the kit should be done in 2-3 weeks. I'll drive down to pick it up, so won't need a shipping box.

There are a few things that I want to modify and a few questions. just so you guys can join in with suggestions right from the start. By the way, I'll be using a tabernacle for the mizzen too as i'll need to lower the rig with sails attached to go under bridges. I'll mostly be single handing.

Here is what I sent to Alan in a message. The Master is out of town for a bit, so I'm dealing with the Junior Master.

"Here's the things we talked about today. And some we didn't.

 1. Cooler needs to fit through a 10" x 16" hatch opening. Maybe use 2 hatches on one side of the boat? Open to suggestions.

 2. Don't need shipping box, but do need the plywood cradle parts. Are dimensions of the spacing for these on the drawings somewhere?

 3. Need to know height of foot of mizzen to allow a Bimini top to clear it. Height above coaming would be best, but from sole, seat top, or other         measurable spot on boat.

 4. In addition to regular hardware, I'll need: 3-4" deck cleats, 2-chocks, opening ports. is the hatch for the ballast tank included? I'll need it. Reefing hardware and lines if not included. Extra bulls eye fairleads to run all lines from main mast to aft end of cabin top. Could you make me a couple of the "one-legged wing nuts" for the mast "holder-upper" (couldn't think of proper nomenclature) bolt?

 5. 3/4" stainless hollow back rubrail and keel strip, and 1/2" strip long enough to go from bow eye to under bow to join 3/4" keel strip.

 6. Carla said she'd get the sails on the next order, but I forgot to tell her that I want "sausage" bags for them so I can leave the battens in place.

 7. Would you have a couple of short sections of mast tubing to use to align the tabernacles? I don't have ceiling height in my garage to use the actual mast sections. Or is there a p.v.c. pipe size the same?

 8. I would want to be able to open the forward hatch to raise/lower the main mast, I guess I'll need to make a sliding hatch as there wouldn't be enough clearance to lift a regular mast with the mast down (?) Any thoughts on this?

I guess that's it for now, but I'm sure i'll have more to bother you with later. Thanks for your patience! Stay warm."

Dale, thanks. I always want opening ports with screens on my boats. I like the fresh air even if it's not too hot in the mountains. I do plan to travel to the coast a couple of times a year, and also down to the bigger lakes within a reasonable range.

By the way. I'm from the St.Pete-Clearwater area. I love the coast between Dunedin and Cedar Key---my old cruising waters. Also Tampa Bay around Gandy Bridge. I lived in Crystal Beach for awhile and spent many happy weekends cruising from Caladesi Island to Anclote key.

Chick,

I noticed that you previously owned a Princess Sharpie 22.  I am very seriously considering building one of these 2 boats (CS 17 Mrk 3 or a PS22).  Might you be able to differentiate the two boats for me?

I am in love with the looks of the PS22, but don't know the trade offs for these gorgeous looks (there are usually trade off for good looks).  I am looking for a family cruiser for exploring, day sailing with 4-6, and overnighting with 2-3.  I'm not looking to win any races, just explore.  I want the boat safe, simple, fast to rig, shallow draft, easy to trailer, single hand capable.  I plan to use the motor a fair amount, Idaho wind is very fickle.

If you were looking to gunk hole around with your family, an occasional overnighter or week long sailing trip to the Puget Sound with your wife, which boat might you recommend, or yet a different boat altogether.

How did you enjoy you PS22?  Was the boat what you envisioned it would be?  In what areas did it disappoint you?  In what areas did it impress you?

Looking forward to your thoughts,

Brent

Brent. I enjoyed talking on the phone with you. I think that we agreed that the P-22 would be best if you plan extended cruises or planned to be in open water with a chance of rough weather, or will be motoring much. Otherwise, maybe the CS-22 Mk-3 would better suit your needs. I think that you've about decided on the Princess. I know that you'll be very satisfied. Looking forward to seeing your final choice.

I think that there is a P-22 somewhere on the west coast that you could see.

Sooooo Chick, knowing you are a B&B "insider" are you announcing the new CS22 MKIII?   HUMMM, Inquiring minds want to know, I think the Maritime Master is out of the country.

Mr. Ludwig,  can you confirm the exsistance of a CS22 MKIII in the "secret hanger" in Vandermere?

Jay. I'm not privy to a P-22, but I doubt it. The CS series is much easier to build and enough are sold to justify a Mk-3. I would think that scaling it up would be better than doing a Mk-3 of the Princess. Heck---I'm making this up. I don't know nuttin'!  When I go down for my CS-17 Mk-3 kit, I'll try to get a peek into the Skunkworks shed...
