Chick Ludwig
We woke up this morning and found that the temperature was up to the upper 60's, so Turtler wanted to get in at least one more cruise before winter sets in for good. It snowed last weekend, and there is a chance it will next weekend. Lake Robinson near Greer, SC. It's about 45 minutes away from home. We were at a beautiful Greer city park with a boat ramp. There is another lake near by that the city owns too. Lake Cunningham. We'll check-it-out next time. There is a fee to use the lakes, but it covers both lakes. Miss Debbie graciously saved the last piece of meatloaf for me to make a sandwich from. This along with some bar-b-q chips and a Mountain dew constituted our lunch, along with a couple of Oreos. There was a light breeze blowing as we set off from the dock. Rather than me talking a lot, let's just get to the pictures. Here's Turtler patiently waiting to get started. Here's the spillway at the dam next to the park. Back at the launching ramp and dock. Turtler's new tiller extension so I can sit forward for better trim. One of many interesting coves. This will be a good place to find turtles next summer. An old abandoned dock. Turtler scared these ducks off. He's much to noisey to sneak up on them. Looking towards the other end of the lake. A typical house on the lake. Large cleared hilly area with a house on top of the hill. This is the "House-on-a-hill". Canada geese. We saw gaggles of them. The bridge over a narrow part of the lake. the lake is narrower beyond here, but with pretty views. One of the larger estates. If you look closely, you'll see that there are bunches of crows in the yard. Here we are on the way back to the park. This is the bath room building. There is a large covered deck with with pic-nic tables on the other end. The pic-nic pavilion. Looking down on the fishing pier from the bathrooms. That's the dam beyond. We decided that Lake Robinson will be worth another visit. It is one of the prettier places I've been. It's only the second lake that Turtler's been to, but Miss Debbie and i have been to others. It is not a typical mountain lake. It is in a low area, kinda like a bowl, rather than in a mountain valley. It is part of the water supply for the city of Greer. most of the mountain lakes are, or used to be, for power generation. Today's visit only cost us $6.00 for a one day pass, and this would cover boating on the other lake too. Lake Cunningham is the other lake that is part of the water supply and is smaller, but will be another good place to visit. Unfortunately for us po' folks, the city has decided to raise the rates for both daily and annual passes. The annual pass will be $55.00, and the daily, $30.00. This does cover both lakes, and any boat you bring. Lake Robinson is large enough to day sail on, and since it is not surrounded by mountains, the breeze is fairly steady. Fishing is good I'm told. The lake covers 800 Acres. There are some reasonable rules which I'll add below. Regulations (Source: Greer Commission of Public Works ) A boating permit is required and can be purchased at the Lake Wardens Office located at the lake. No outboard motors greater than 10 HP allowed No fishing allowed around the dam area. No trespassing signs posted, and the law is strictly enforced. Creel limits: 10 largemouth bass, 30 non game fish per day per person, no limit on non game fish. Here is a link that you can go for more info. http://www.southcarolinalakes.info/Robinson.htm Well, y'all, that's about it for Turtler's Lake Robinson adventure. We'll be back soon with another cool place for Messing in the Appalachians. See ya then.

Chick Ludwig
Thanks Lennie. Gotta find good boating places up here in the hills. Some are only good for canoes, kayaks, and little boats, but some are actually pretty good sailing lakes. I'm looking forward to getting Turtler some company in the sail boat department.
