spinnaker for 12 foot SpinDrift sloop?

Hi John,

I wouldn't do it as I think the boat is great as it is. But once again it depends on what type of sailing you enjoy. As I get older, I now prefer a more simple and relaxed way of sailing and in a good blow the boat is a handful to sail, in a good way. I hope you go ahead and add a spinnaker just to see what it's like. I am over sailing on racing boats with ropes everywhere to tweek this and that. Good luck and enjoy your build.

Do any of y'all have experience with the sloop rig? Is there a Genoa jib available to help light air performance? I've decided to go with a smaller boat than the CS-17 that I was going to finish---long story. I think that the Spindrift 12 would work out nicely at this stage in my life, and the mountain lakes that I'm close to.

Hi Alex, yes, I hear you.  The main reason I would do this is so I can use this fairly small and light weight boat to learn to sail better.  Also, around the Puget Sound, the winds can be pretty light.  If you are fighting a current caused by the tides, it may be nice to have a little more power with a spinnaker.
