Custom designs

They all start out as a custom design, unless Graham elects to just take a shot at a spec project, which can be risky, unless you perceive a market need. In a lot of cases, the commissioned design has a level of protection applied, some for a specific period, others indefinitely, while others, might live on "a list" then get tossed in the "stock designs" drawer. Each designer and NA are different about how they handle this and it's often at the request of a client, particularly in regard to class qualifying or racing designs, where proprietary protection of it's "innovations" might be desired. I currently have about 80 separate designs, though only a couple dozen published for home building. Many of these are commercial or simply to complex to consider as a home build, others protected at the clients request or by me to protect it's secrets. The ones left have become in house "stock".

So the person footing the bill for the design can/could not want others building it? ......a phone call or email stating what I am wanting to the designer would prob be the most efficient way then, right?

shopping many plans is a good cheap pastime though! Lol!

and as for the plans that are to complex for a home builder I understand.

really do appreciate the input Par, thank you.

Yep, call Graham and see what he's got for you. Yes, it's not uncommon for a client to want some level of exclusivity with their design. I have a custom racer that I did a few years ago, that experienced an exceptional first season, a good second season and has suffered several mechanical ills this season. It was agreed from the outset a 3 year exclusivity would exist. This design will soon be in the "stock plans" drawer.

Graham has done two designs for me that are now stock plans, one modification of one of his designs that is now stock, and the latest, "Turtler" the Sport Boat, that may become a stock plan if there is interest. By all means talk to him. He is a pleasure to work with.
