Kudzu
Finally have a good connection this morning and wanted to post a few photos from paddling around the area. My goal was to finally paddle the Atlantic but that hasn't work out. So I have spent time in the bays and one fresh water river. Class starts in about an hour so time it limited but here are a few photos I took. Yesterday I was on the creek off the Poconoke River. Probably the prettiest place I have ever paddled! Like a mirror. Made a couple of paddles out in the local Bay(s) and though the marsh channels This is looking at Wallops Island. NASA owned and they launch rockets from here. Last supply mission on the ISS left from here. Obviously there is no access to this area for the General Public. We will get to go out there latter this week to their private beach. One of the marsh houses. Yes, out in the middle of the marsh. I seem to remember reading a news article about these but I can't find it or remember much about it. But I think there are three of them. I found two. Someone tell me what this is. I saw two of them and they never dove or flew. Just slowly swam away from me. See the 'ship' on the horizon? It wasn't a ship. It was the first house I found. Out in the middle of the bay over an oyster bed. Time for one more cup of coffee and then to meet the class and start building boats! Action Tiger
Stunning. I think the bird may be a cormorant. How do you take a FROG photo in those houses?
P Doug (WA)
Some beautiful kayaking. Do people live in those houses year round or are they summer cabins?

Kudzu
Turns out it is marsh Mud Hen or a **** Rail. I can't find where I wrote it down now. But they live in the marsh grass and you rarely see them. But one of the guys here ID'ed it and said that they do swim sometimes. So I was lucky to see two of them. bwhip
Looks like a Virginia Rail.
Kudzu
Looks like a Virginia Rail. It was a funny/odd first name and wrote it down but now I can't find it. Paul, I don't know about he houses. I am guessing originally these belonged to the watermen of the area and were their homes. But these two were good outside but appeared they were rebuilding from storm damage. Both has items on the decks from inside the house. P.S. I asked some of the office staff and they knew a little about these. They were private homes, not sure if they were/are occupied year round though. There is an issue with one out in the open about 'land' ownership. It seems it was in the marsh and over time the marsh has moved leaving it out in the open. Ali, wasn't clear on the details but at some point when you are X distance from the land (Marsh) you land becomes State Land and not private land. She was thinking this was the case with that house, and that it was either on or about to on State Land. Should be an interesting court battle there. :-)

Kudzu
BINGO! I finally remembered it. As far as I know we have no Rails of any kind. So this was totally new to me.
