Boarding Ladders for Spindrift

Recommended Posts

It finally happened yesterday, I capsized while mucking about while my friend was taking some photos. I took some time to get back in, but I managed. I am wondering what others are using for re-boarding their boats after a capsize. I went to a chandlery today to check out what they had on offer and none of them really suit the Spindrift. The only one that may be suitable was a rope ladder. For those of you who don't have a ladder you may want to consider getting one, especially on the bigger boats with higher sides.

Your thoughts and experience are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Alex,

You give good advice, especially for larger boats. I have capsized Spindrifts many times and found it both quick and easy to right and get back on board.

We have covered this subject on earlier posts, the way that I get back on board is to come in head first over the windward transom and slide up the cockpit seat. You do not have to be very strong as the boat heels down to you as it feels your weight.

This is worth practicing.

Thanks Graham, I will practice this method and see what happens. I was surprised how easy it was to right the boat, maybe it took less than a minute after capsizing. Very easy. Thanks.
