ricknriver
Hi, Graham and Carla are planning another wood boat building demo at the 4th annual Washington NC Marine Market on the waterfront from 1-4 pm on Saturday April 26th 2014. The Market runs from 9-6 and as last year I'm trying to get as many wooden boats displayed as possible to promote wooden boat building and share ideas among builders & owners. We had a great turnout and interest last year. Market details at http://washingtononthewater.com/WashMarineMarket.html Please let us know if you would like to display your cartop or trailered wood boat at the Market - no charge, but I have to plan for space. I'll be bringing the BH19. There is a Wildlife ramp about 3/4 mile from the show site but you would have to have masts down to clear a bridge at the ramp, and then cruise the waterfront. Thank you, Rick 252-945-4472 New Info: Graham plans to bring components of the new CS17MkIII, and the Cocktail Racing Assn. plans to demo their mini home-built wood 8hp racers. GAP333
Hello, I am new to the forum and boatbuilding. I am thinking of starting with the BH19. I have spoken with Carla about plans, just ordered the CD. I think I'll stop by on this weekend an take a look at your boat if that's OK. ricknriver
That would be ok. Saturday best for me. She's at McCotters Marina on her trailer. At Broad Creek east of Washington. Near the end of River Road along the north shore of the Pamlico. Ring me when you get close. 252-945-4472.
GAP333
Great and thanks.... Just to clarify by "this weekend" I was meaning the NC Marine Market on April 26th 1-4 PM you mentioned above. Very generous offer to come see the boat. I just meant I would see it at the Washington Market where you plan to be! Greg
ricknriver
Understand. Thanks for clarifying. See you at the Marine Marker. Rick
GAP333
Rick, As I mentioned I am new to the forum and new to the idea of building. I have owned the O'day Mariner and Widgeon, the Hunter 25 and a 10" no name small dingy. I have been looking for a boat and settled on the B19. Then I noticed the new offerings of the CS17&20 MKIII. Graham made a couple of comments to me on the differences, one being the use of the BH19 as a proper "small cruiser" for a small family. I know the choice will be mostly based on intended usage. I am 60+ and will do a lot of solo sailing, some for long weekends. However I also want to take the grand children at times. I thought with your experience with theBH19, you may be willing to offer your thoughts on the differences/advantages you might imagine in the building/use of these two boats. Any ideas are welcome. And thanks. Greg
Hirilonde
............ and a 10" no name small dingy. Bath tub toys don't count
GAP333
Count? I remember a grey submarine about 10" long. If memory serves that was THE most exciting boat I have ever owned. It was a bathtub toy and I was very young. It had a mechanism to make it descend and surface. It had torpedo's that fired and a deck gun that swiveled. You could see every rivet that held it together. And the periscope come up from the tower. Maintenance was extremely low and no rivals ever bested her. Sure, you could not overnight but you could imagine fierce battles and distant shores. No better vessel ever sail a porcelain tub. Never be too quick to "count" until the counting's done! Hirilonde
Well fine then. If bath tub toys count, then this counts as a build. This will be a present for my grandson. Still trying to decide the best age to give it to him. He is just 11 months old now, but I could not wait to "build" it. I found a vintage publication of the 1946 book I so enjoyed as a child. Sorry to distract from the original topic. I always enjoy visiting Graham's building booth at Mystic Seaport. This one is just too far away for now. ricknriver
Hey that's why the forum's here :-). Neat little tug. No apparent moving/loose parts and if safe paint would be tempted to give it to him soon. Greg333 you may want to start another topic along the line of "BH19 vs CS17MkIII vs CS20MKIII" and get some lively comments on the advantages/challenges of each of Graham's pocket cruisers as fans see them so far. I think the MkIIIs have some nice advantages over the BH19. Only challenge I see off the top is walking the cabin top (for this 70+ old dog) to reach something forward that may not be easily accessible from the cabin top slot. I'd love to have one of the MkIIIs at the Marine Mart in April to compare with my BH19. But may have to wait for the Oct Messabout? Rick PS Just remembered and saw the continuing thread on the 17 and 20 MkIIIs that should grow into a comparison piece once one or more hit the water. TonyDay
Rick, I will bring SUSAN G if I get the chance to spruce her up a little. Every so often these boats need some bright work refreshening and this is the year. What we need is this winter to end so we can get into SPRING. Tony By the way, REAL men sail P22's. ricknriver
Great Tony. She's a real crowd favorite. Yes, I need to do some of the brightwork on the BH19 also. Will never get her as nice as yours though. Thanks, Rick
GAP333
I am so looking forward to building, I have sketches of the BH19 I go over and over. Anyone who has a BH19, if photos are not already available in the forum, could you please post? If they are somewhere in older posts any links will be appreciated. I am waiting, hoping that Graham will get to a kit for the BH19. I want to build, but I am also aware that this will be a big challenge for a first build. I am anxious to get started because the goal is to get on the water! I must say this forum is great and I have learned so much already. But its time for me to get moving with a project !!!
