Kudzu
Believe it or not, this was Christmas gift! My sister and her boyfriend Robert, totally shocked me with this one! My cousin is currently working on Texas near my sister and when she came home for Christmas she called and said I have your Christmas present in my car and you HAVE to come get it as soon as I get home. I have no room left in my car! Needless to say that had my curiosity running wild. Couldn't image what they had found. Robert buys, refurbishes and sells office machines of all types. I don't know the story behind this but it wasn't working and needed some repairs before it could be used. He explained to me what he thought was wrong and that he had bought and sold a lot of these and this was a common problem and would be simple for me to fix. This is a photo quality plotter and it because of the large (huge) file sizes it has a hard drive inside to store the photo files and free up the computer. I didn't realize that the newer plotter had drives in them but it makes sense. I ordered a replacement drive, got it installed and working. Tuned out it needed to a print head replaced but is simple too. I just got it up and running and the best part is has a network card. I have it plugged in as a device on my network so I print from any device in the house as long as it has the printer driver loaded. That is one of best gifts I have received in a long time!
PAR
What width is your plotter? I can assume it's an older DesignJet? I gave up on HP a few years ago. Make sure you run good paper through, 24 lb. and 28 lb. is what I used. It'll run 20 lb., but doesn't like it as much. Also consider a CISS setup for it, if you have much volume. These are pretty easy to self install and can save huge on consumables.
Kudzu
Yes it is a DesignJet 800. I don't know exactly how old it is but I am using a 20 +/- year old DesignJet that has and still is serving me well. I have had to do a couple of minor repairs on it and but I was getting a little concerned about finding parts when does eventually break.
