Joe Anderson
There have been a few previous posts about transom mounted boarding ladders. I have not been really keen on any of the options. I do need a way to make getting back into the boat from the water easier after a swim intentional or not. This is one inch tubular nylon webbing left over from my climbing days. I melted a hole into the tube with my soldiering iron. Then I threaded some quarter inch bungee into the tube and knotted the ends where they exit. The bungee keeps the webbing up out of the way but stretches to allow the webbing to drop. You have to do some experimenting to get the length just right. The cost was right for me and because I was tying into the existing transom eyes I did not have to drill into the transom. I think it might look a little frilly but so far I am dealing with that. I have reentered the boat several times from the water using the webbing and it is a great help. It is not what I would call real easy and Sally has so far declined to try it. I have not added any hand holds so I have to grab mizzen sheets, cleats, etc. Further testing is scheduled but I am pleased so far. Joe Anderson
The webbing also serves as a grab line to help stay with the boat if it is drifting away from you.
