Joe Feager
What is wrong with this? I had envisioned the gunwales going past frame 1' and lashing to the stern stem. That is not going to happen.
P Doug (WA)
Joe, don't know where everyone is and being I have only built one kayak (Curlew) I hesitate to try to answer questions. One does not make me an expert. But here is a picture of the stern area of my Curlew. The gunwales do not extend past the frame and lash to the stern. They butt against it and are lashed together infront of the frame. I'm pretty sure this is correct, because I posted these pictures as I built and wasn't told it was wrong. Joe Feager
Paul, Thanks for getting back. I thought I'd get some input but then figured I was ok. (No news being good news) I checked some other pic's and saw minor differences only so went ahead this morning and glued up. One difference I have noticed compared to some others is that my stem had a notch to receive the keel past frame 1'0" to help tied all together. Kudzu
Sorry, I missed this but that is right. You can use what I call an X lashing to pull the gunwales together. Lashing them at the same time. Been really busy the last couple of weeks and now try to get over an infection. Not much getting done around my shop. P Doug (WA)
Glad you jumped in, Jeff. Begining to worry about you. Afraid you took one of those cold kayak trips and frooze up!. Hope you are feeling better. My wife and I are just getting over Whooping Cough of all things.

P Doug (WA)
Ya, something is down some where. I can't get to Jeff's site and same thing on my favorite woodworking site. Sorry, I put this on the wrong post.
