Paul, with the right gear winter paddling is very comfortable. Of course without it it miserable and can be deadly

These were taken on our last paddle of the year.  I think my eye lids froze closed on this one.

It was about 38 degrees, 15 mph wind, snow and sleet falling. I was perfectly comfortable till I had to take off my mittens to load that boat. Lesson learned! Leave a pair of dry gloves on land to change into. You just can't tie knots with those mittens on.

I will go backpacking in the winter, I will go sailing in the winter, but I like it warm for paddling.  It does looke like you guys had fun though, or you are just good actors  :P

My Tuilik is very warm. I've taken to wearing the dry suit under but don't need it. It allows me fewer layers. Haven't conquered the feet. As we walked around the ship, wearing Chotas, I was fine but once back in the boat it wasn't long before my toes were cold. It would help if I had a little more foot room in my boats to allow some movement. Went out for our annual New Years Day sans Chotas wearing socks under Sealskinz waterproof socks, more room but still cold. It was 24 that day here. The rest of me was quite warm. Even had toe Warner's under the Sealskinz but they were old.
