Just a heads up. I will start pre-sales on the new book next week. Should have copies in about two weeks, maybe 3. I will have a web page up showing the boats that are in this book at the same time. I know it is all about the free plans. ;) I have had several people ask me about when it would be available and the boats.

There is at least one new technique in there, varnished transoms. A lot of the same ground is covered again but I did rewrite a lot of it. I think the only thing I copied without changing was the chapter on lofting. If you have the first book it's going to look similar but with new boats.

Paul, that was taken below Guntersville dam late one evening. There wasn't much color in the sunset and I had taken a few photos but knew they weren't anything great. As the the breeze calmed I noticed the reflection and moved the boat around and took 3 or 4. This was of course the best one of them. Was struggling for a cover shot when I remembered this one. Got to say I am pretty happy with it.

Hi Jeff. I've only come across the idea of SOF boats this year. I had to give up canoes due to knee pain so was looking into kayak designs and discovered this whole new world of lightweight contruction! After seeing Dave Gentry's Whitehall I am now considering a small family row boat for our local canal and lochs; perhaps along the lines of an Adirondack Guideboat..

I was going to hint to my wife to buy your first fuselage book for Christmas. Considering your comments in the first post above and that a row boat is likely to be my first go do you think your new book would be more applicable as a Christmas present?

I've thoroughly enjoyed the education I've had on this topic via your youtube links and all the contributions here and on kayakforum and WoodenBoat.

Thanks very much
kind regards
Chris

Yes, there are two rowing boats in the new book with offsets for building them. Hope to get the new pages up on the web site today.
