I have had a Short Shot frame kit that didn't sell laying around in the way for a while now. I have been debating on what to do with it and no one has ordered a Short Shot kit either. A couple of weeks ago I had an idea.

I don't own a Baidarka and that is one boat I have always wanted. I have wanted to build a Firefly for myself but it just hasn't happened. I always felt it was smarter to devote my time to building new designs. Even so I have been playing with ideas for 2-3 years for a boat just for me.

A few weeks ago I I got wondering if I could modify the Short Shot into a Baidarka. I started working on the concept and here is what I have come up with. I started with the idea to just change the ends but that wouldn't work. I will will have to scrap a couple of frames and the end peices to make it right, but I can use most of the existing parts. This is not a go yet but I like what I am seeing.

PS The rendering show the stern skin in a cone shape and that is not right. I just didn't bother to take the time to make it show it correctly.

I like the look. I'd often thought I like to build the Baidarka, but sewing around that front piece is pretty intimidating to me.

I have one done the one and I had to remove a lot of stitches and try again. But it turned out well.

Having stitched up a few boats this year I have gotten more efficent..and I think of stitched up sculpture 1/2 kayak pieces hanging on the wall.......Idea: the bow of a kayak apearing to be poking through the wall...
Anyway..
Back in my school days I woud stretch a pollyester doubble nit fabric over wood forms and do a painting.. and one time I did a lawnmower base and a car fender then paint with acrylics...
