Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I have never been in (or even seen) a SOF kayak. In my other kayaks my heels rest on the bottom of the boat and the balls of my feet are pushing on the foot pegs. In these boats, are your heels resting directly on the skin fabric? Is any additional reinforcement needed there?

As said, None needed. You could put a pad such as a yoga mat glued in place. I have thought about doing that but never got a 'round-tuit". Got to thinking, it could peel up and trap your foot in your boat in an emergency so I decided it is a bad idea. Safety first!!
