Jeff,
Are there any tricks to stapling the 8 oz polyester to the gunwales of an SOF canoe? Does the loose weave require the staples be angled? I have stapled 9 oz nylon on a canoe and it was no problem but I want to try poly this time.
Thanks
Dave

No tricks. The only thing is that the staples do pull the fibers tight where they go through. So you get a small pull, but once it is painted it's barely noticeable. SUPPOSEDLY if you use staples with an angle tooth as opposed to a blunt chisel tooth it will not do this. But I have not be able to find a monel staple that his not chisel pointed.

OH, one trick. I like a skinny rubrail. Wide ones don't look good to me. So I cut a guide block to help me keep mine inline so that they were hidden behind the rubrail.

Thanks, Jeff. I built a 12 foot, Wee Lassie type canoe with steam bent ribs that came out better than I expected. I covered the staples with a 1/4 X 3/4 pine rubrail because, like you, a wide one doesnt look good to my eye.
