CS17 Seat Nailing

Both Hamilton Marine and Jamestown have bronze ring nails with much smaller heads than that. Like 1/8th.

The plans call for the seats being nailed. You could more than likely do fine without it, but I wouldn't.

Failing getting the nails, you could use some 3/4 #6 stainless screws and screw them down, countersinking them then epoxy fill the heads with an epoxy/filler mix.

If you are planning to varnish or oil the thwarts, you could counterbore for the screws and put dowels or little rounded plugs over them. The little round plugs are available from Rockler or Constantine's. I wouldn't take that much trouble on my boat, but some folks do.
