Guest Joe Nelson
Just wondering if Pat K is on the forum and could shed some light on the wooden mast building and performance issues. Was the process worth the effort? Do the masts weigh substantially more? Do the wooden masts increase weight aloft enough to notice a difference in the ultimate stability? Were they Birds Mouth construction or solid? Etc.. Thanks, Joe joe_nelson22@hotmail.com
Guest Graham Byrnes
I can't speak for Pat's method or building experience but I have been in contact with him about his masts. He switched to aluminum because the wood one was too soft. That doesn't mean that wood can't be strong enough but it is heavier. His wood masts were 3" x 5/8" wall and weighed 7# more than his stiffer new aluminum masts.
