Frank Hagan
Along with my other tool purchases recently, I also picked up a DeWalt 621K plunge router ... my other router being a venerable PC 690 series fixed base router. This one came pretty highly recommended by others. It was a tie for me between this one and the Bosch plunge router; DeWalt won out because I am so happy with the 721 planer I bought recently. I haven't been able to actually USE the router yet, but hope to start this week on a new project. I'll post my impressions of it when I do so. Bill
i've been looking for a decent Plunge router but haven't made a decision yet. I have three fixed routers already and have been real happy with the Porter Cable tools I already own, along with DeWalt. I bought a copy of Taunton's 2006 tool guide and they rate the Bosch(1617evspk) and Porter Cable(895pk) high. These are in the Combo kit category. I'm leaning towards the Bosch, It rated best overall, and readers choice. The price seems about in the middle. Of course, they all seem somewhat affordable when I compare them to getting a multi-router right? b.
Frank Hagan
I like PC tools, but they have had some issues with their variable speed feature on the routers. There's a great review site by a guy named Pat Warner, http://www.patwarner.com ... he has some in-depth reviews of both the DeWalt and Bosch routers. Its still one guy's opinion, of course, but he seems to have a fair evaluation of them. (He manufactures after-market router bases, so gets to work with many different routers). IIRC, he gives the edge to the DeWalt, but also likes the Bosch as a very close second.
Bill
I forgot about Pat. Hadn't been there for a while. Looks like some reading to catch up on. BTW you might want to edit that link. You have a comma on the end of it and it doesn't work correctly. Thanks again for the link... b.
