It's interesting that System Three has a special formulation for the "whites" yet tests have proven (many done by West System) that it's simply surface prep that gets the whites to bond well, long term.

 

Like just about everything in boat building and repairing it boils down to how well it was prepped.  I glue Teak all the time with no issue at all by carefully cleaning the oil off the mating surfaces with acetone.  I do the same before the first coat of varnish as well.
