  1. It's cleaner looking, definitely, but it added a bunch of hours to the project. The location is on the Willamette river, just downstream of the Sellwood bridge in Portland. They are currently replacing the old (truss) bridge with a new (arch) bridge.
  2. Thanks! I get looks from all the people with plastic boats.
  3. Hehe, you get both the old and new Sellwood bridges in one photo, that's basically 2 bridges. Museum still open as far as I know, I need to go sometime.
  4. Thanks Jeff, it's a lovely boat, works as advertised... I did the 2 piece skin with a rub rail, I like the way it looks, but it's probably a lot of unnecessary work. I have good sewing skills, I could have easily done 1 piece. I like it the way it is though, I'm proud of the work I did. Going to take it farther down river tomorrow, try to see Ross Island and get some pictures of downtown Portland from an angle I haven't seen before.
  5. Some current progress -- got her all painted up, starting on the rub rails... Oh! and I still have to add the final coaming ring...
  6. I used to do trade shows and conventions for my little business. Never made a lot of money, but got to meet a lot of people, and I thought it was a good way to get my name out there. You also learn really quickly what's right/wrong with your product.
  7. I did it mostly to keep myself from being stabbed if the glue lets go. I agree it's not really structural.
  8. I staggered mine, and I also used a round lashing to keep them from coming apart.
  9. Oh, hmmm, I tried to respond to your post, but it didn't take for some reason. The secret to the brackets is 1/8" mahogany plywood, it's thin but still strong enough. You can buy it through Aircraft Spruce, who happen to have an antipodean distributor -- http://www.aircraftspruce.com.au/Wood.asp. Here's what they look like from the other side:
  10. Some form of rub rail, I might use some of that 1/8" mahogany ply, and then a 1/4" wood strip over it. Currently on 2nd coat of paint (Rustoleum).
  11. That cat disapproves of just about everything. Except disproportionately large rodents. Here's more pictures. I'd ask questions, but the book and the internet usually yield answers before I have to ask. And here it is with the fabric shrunk... The bow is a little goofy because the fabric magically moved aft somehow as I was stapling it. I am going to cover that up with a similarly shaped trim piece. I have some 1/8" mahogany ply that should work well.
  12. Been lurking around here for a while, I figure it's time to post a couple photos I bought materials from Jeff a while back, 8oz polyester, footrests, etc. I'm farther along than the photos, I'll post a few more later. This has been a great project, I love the design.
