  1. Jeff What type of stitch/finish is under the brass and where did you find the brass strip?
  2. Sounds fun! That's about 8 hours for us and about 10-11 for woodman. I am starting a triple build for wife, daughter and self and hope to have my wife paddeling with a little more confidence by next summer which would likely be my first opportunity to travel/ paddle.
  3. Great Great News!!! I'll be keeping an eye on the store!
  4. Concerining the steel wool fibers. I waited until the paint was well dried before using and was able to just brush the fibers off.
  5. Just a thought but have any of you tried steel wool to soften the surface instead of sand paper?
  6. Jeff I also would be willing to pay $7 per foot for 11.5oz poly. I want something that will last for a very long time and I think that 11.5 poly would do so. In fact I will be needing skin for my daughters boat soon!
  7. Hey Jeff do you have any 24" wide boats that you can stretch a piece of that around to see if it is enough???
  8. I watched your video on sewing it on and gathered that the only restretch is if there is mild damage. Have you tried mild reheating to fix the dimple?
  9. Thanks for the clarify! Jeff how wide of a boat will that skin cover?
  10. I'll be in big trouble because I break the rules often!!!
  11. H are there any mom and pop type sporting goods stores in your area??? Same theory!!!
  12. Would removal of a small amount of wood from the bow piece be an option? In order to get a more natural alignment and bend of the keelson??? Beautiful boat though!
  13. For getting the skin tight try taking a look at a newer Jeep with a soft top. The spreader that is used to tighten the top could be built of wood and metal and placed in various locations throught the boat.
  14. I weigh 300 and Jeff suggested Vardo for me.
  15. Local privately owned outdoor supply stores!
  16. ??? Updates on cloth??? I just finished building my now shop after the snow storm killed my other one and I'm almost ready to order skin for boats 2 and 3 for my wife and daughter. Of course I'll use nylon if I need to!
  17. Unfortunately there are too few of the small guys still in business. Thankfully the economy is still strong enough here to support the smaller operations we still have. I just hope that continues.
  18. Aaron go to Jeff's Site and look at his Curlew! Burnt Orange, White and Black striped. A very nice looking boat!
  19. Woodman FYI if you or any of the other guys are interested there is a small mill in Sheridan AR (Brown Millwork) that sells clear cyprus in lengths up to 32' with special order. They are only open M - F / 7 - 3. Phone # (870)942-5224
  20. I have finaly found a source for Baltic Birch 1/2" Ply! Acadian Wood Products in Little Rock AR. 501-562-2041. 1/2" 4X8 $52.20!!!
  21. I will definately start with a 3 1/2" with the length as suggested which for me will be 93". By the time it's all said and done I will be boat and paddle poor. I am one of those people who always needs something to look forward to such as the next build, trip, toy or project! You guys know the old saying about an idle mind!
